| TraverseTravis07-03-07, 07:49 PM | Just as there were leatherette special editions of the PHB, DMG, and MM, I'd like to see WotC release another kind of special edition -- an Old School PHB, DMG, and MM. The Old School Editions would have different cover art, interior illustrations, and fonts than the standard Core books. Though the text would be the same as the standard 3.5E Core books, they would look similar to the either the older 1E style (http://www.acaeum.com/ddindexes/setpages/setscans/phb2nd.html) or the Easley-era 1E books(http://www.acaeum.com/ddindexes/setpages/setscans/phb9th.html). The art would be done by Old School artists such as Erol Otus. Even the logos would be retro-style, with the D&D logo redone with the 1E AD&D logo's font, and the WotC logo redone to look like TSR's logo. The font would be the same as used in the 1E rulebooks. It would be WotC's response to OSRIC: http://www.rpgnow.com/product_info.php?products_id=7767 Travis |

Speaking of Old School formatting of current day products, I would LOVE (yes, that's in all caps for a reason), to see the return of boxed sets. I'm not picky, I'll take anything in a box, even Elminster's Ecologies updated for v.3.5. I want a box shipped in shrink wrap, stuffed full of gaming goodies like polyhedra dice, character sheets, plastic minis, Player, DM, and adventure booklets. Alas, it ain't ever gonna happen, but hey . . . we can dream, eh? :) |
| TraverseTravis07-05-07, 01:48 PM | Yep, the boxed sets were nifty. I started with the Red Box and fondly remember the dice that came with the crayon to rub into the numbers. I was discouraged when I heard about how Judges Guild's 3E Wilderlands boxed set was a financial burden for Necromancer Games, in large part due to boxed sets being damaged (smooshed) in shipping and shelving. Travis Ahh, so I'm not the only one who remembers the crayon (although I don't remember it fondly, I remember that part as a pain in the arse ;)). I haven't heard of the Wilderland boxed sets. I'd even buy a smooshed one. Yeah, smooshing (love that word) was always a problem with such products. If they ever do return, maybe they'll develope a way to "reinforce" the boxes to help avoid it. |

| the black knight07-05-07, 04:13 PM | Show some respect. |
| Escef07-05-07, 04:21 PM | Show some respect. Erol Otus is (was? didn't he die not long ago?) an artist who consistantly displayed questionable skill and a style many found unpleasant. (Though not as bad as Crabapple.) |

| Werral07-05-07, 06:11 PM | which one's did he do? I have the red box set in an attic somewhere and the crayon. |
| _Jayne_Cobb_07-06-07, 09:09 AM | The art would be done by Old School artists such as Erol Otus. You had me up to there. I would rather cut my own eyes out with a broken bottle than subject them to anything vomited onto the page by the aesthetic hate-crime that is Erol Otus. |
| Steely_Dan07-06-07, 09:16 AM | I would love to see something like this. Hell, half the reason I bought the Player's Handbook II was because the cover had a variation of the cover art for the original AD&D Player's Handbook (gem-eyed statue). |

| jeffepp07-07-07, 02:52 AM | Box sets sell, but there is no money in them. They are one of the reasons that TSR went under. They put everything in a box, because people would buy them, but made no money on it. The only reason to use a loss-leader like box sets is when you think people will buy other products after/because of it, like starter/"basic" sets. Another problem that I have run into is that they waist shelf space. I have taken most of the useful contents of my old box sets out, and put the boxes away in storage. In retrospect, I would much rather that they had used the "folder" style that Wizards is using for its super modules. |
