| MergedLoki02-15-08, 02:42 AM | Just a funny post. some disasterous memories of dnd adventures. :) Most recent one happened to my group last night. were all level 2, there were 5 of us and 10 orcs. A hard fight but not impossible. Well, some good rolls on the orcs part and HORRIBLE ones on our part, and within 2 rounds FOUR of the pc's were down. It did NOT go well. our last standing pc (a duskblade) somehow was lucky enough that he didn' take a single hit through the rest of the combat and literally saved our skins, of course now (as he's playing his char, somewhat arrogant) he wont stop reminding the rest of us lol. |
| Captain_Madrick02-15-08, 01:18 PM | My players once ran across a kobold who asked them for help, dethroning another kobold that had become rich, and made himself king. He would pay the PCs to help him kill the king, and make him king. Well, the players killed the king, killed the kobold that hired them, and stole all the king's money. Later that night, when they were camping, they were ambushed by kobolds. Bad rolls on their part, good ones for the kobolds... the bard dies, the rogue escapes. The next day the rogue takes the bard to a church to have him res'd. The only spell he can afford is reincarnation. You see where this is going? They cast the spell, I roll on the chart, and the bard comes back as a kobold. |
| Seflore02-15-08, 01:28 PM | Well we were all level 2 and were working our way through a dungeon and we come into this room that has a skeleton sitting behind a table. On the table is a Deck of Many Things. The skeleton instructs us that we may draw from the deck. So we draw and when it comes to our barbarian, he draws a card and everything that he had on his person (including his clothing) vanishes instantly. He gets really mad and attempts to hit the skeleton but just as he hits him, there is an exploding sound and the barbarian is thrown to the other side of the room and slams into the wall The skeleton simply says, "Don't touch me." So in the next game that we have we still had not found some suitable armour for him so he ends up dying from something he could have easily live from if he had still had his armour. |
| MergedLoki02-16-08, 12:23 AM | Another time, back in the 2E days my group was playing a reverse dungeon module (kinda fun if anyone knows what i'm talking about. where the pc's take on the role of monsters, and try to repel the invading 'heroes' gives a little perspective that the 'good guys' may not be that 'good'). Anyways so level 1 of this dungeon it's goblins, so each PC gets 3 goblin warriors OR one goblin shaman. we lost... badly, i dont care if you have 10 goblins, the NPC adventurers kicked our asses lol. level 2 is ALOT harder monster choices for the pc's included beholder, troll, basalisk, among others. I take a dark paladin (basically a black guard in the days before the term blackguard was around), my other friend took the troll warrior and our 3rd member decides to playt he beholder... Round 1, the adventurers find the room MY anti-paladin is in, i know i can't win (too outnumbered) but i figure i'm playing a level 9 character I can maybe take one of them out to weaken them for the rest of the dungeon monsters.. I think I got maybe 2 hits in, and died in what i can best imagine as 'very painfully'. the beholder and troll are in the same room. so more even odds (i believe there were 4 npc adventurers). the troll goes down in the FIRST round. and seeing that the rest of us were dead the beholder pc goes '**** it. i spin around drooling and letting my tongue fly through the air' so we all had a laugh imagining this giant floating eye just spinning around drooling and laughing manicaly lol. that was the end of the reverse dungeon we never did lvl 3 lol too depressed after the brutal slaughter of lvl 2. |
| starkreality02-16-08, 02:20 PM | I was playing the campaign arc the Sinister Secret of Saltmarsh in 3.5, and we had plowed through all the way to the final floor of the third module's dungeon. We had annihilated every sahuagin in our path, and were standing the large room, with a staircase into the water. Our arrogant PC's laugh and laugh... The favored soul says "Step aside, wizard, rogue, and.... sea elf. I will take care of this." He preps for 6 rounds, Including an enlarge person from the wizard, a Bull's Strength, water breathing, and others. He trots down the stairs with a silly grin. The sahuagin priestess swims forward and drops an area dispell magic, Nat 20 dispel check. The favored soul's dying words were "blub BLUB!", the second bubble being an expletive. He died later that round. |
| Nathreet02-16-08, 05:54 PM | Area dispels only affect the highest level enchantment on each target. Targeted dispels affect every enchantment on a single target. In either case you must roll separately for each enchantment. |
| Rhyvurg02-16-08, 06:23 PM | My best/worst headdesk moment ever: In a level 15 Gestalt game, one of my players uses Temporal Acceleration and wraps up the bad guy in multiple Energy Walls and covers the whole thing in Ectoplasmic Wall. In his last Accelerated round, he uses Metamorphosis to become a Beholder and using Metamormhic Transfer utilizes the animagic cone to negate any magical escape attemts. Not a bad plan, but he forgot the cone would negate his walls too. |

| darkneolink02-17-08, 12:28 AM | back in the day we were learning the rules of the d20 sistem so we did a lot of stuff out of the rules but reallt cinematic ("Hey thats cool try it roll your dice and according to the result I'll tell you" was a common saying) We were playing starwars for fluff reason my character (we were all Jedis) was the weakes but fastest of the group (often rellying in his speed and good luck more than his strengh or even the force... except for forcespeed of course) We were in a base there was a huge chasm and I was runing towards it I saw it and say "I jump it" roll my dice get a 20 managed to jump it and stop myself to see how my friends are doing. Then our main hitter who was coming with me (the other 2 went their own way while I was searching for an exit to warn our reinforcements and he was... well he was saving me... I suck at combat due to bad luck) he says "I jump too" and rolls a 1 so half way over the chasm he started to fall he obviously wasnt going to make it so I did the smartest thing I tough Force pull at my ally who was twice my weight and was running really fast towards me In a really thin bridge survived... was a miracle. I got out (we separated ways as he followed a sith who was his "rival" and I was all "I have to get reinforcements") and managed to get myself a starfighter the bunker had a small hole (like the one on the deathstar) so I decided to use my final torpedoes against it... all 1 "well looks like you wont be able to destroy the base as was ordered" one of my friends said and I smiled "Is that a challenge?" My character proceeded to fly towards the hole and made the ship fall towards it (the idea was to make the ship go into the hole and explode the base) while I ejected me out of the ship 7 padawans and 2 masters died that day for the republic I survived the martial court thanks to my fast talk and the support of my friends who somehow(plotdevice) survived weel I think that both ended well Oh yeah I jumped into the abyss to save one of my companions who ended up being an evil cleric of takhisis... wasn't pretty |
| Captain_Madrick02-18-08, 03:18 PM | So my last game session, I knew the PCs were headed to Chult... They had a dragon that would take them there. However, the cleric had cast Word of Recall before they had left, so they travelled back to the beginning first. So now they had to travel to the shore to arrange passage to Chult. No big deal. Then, in the forest on the way to the shore they are attacked by Zhents, and nearly die. They can't quite heal up well enough... luckily the Sorcerer just learned Plane Shift as the spell. He plane shifts the entire party to the Seven Mounting Heavens of Celestia. I don't have any other source other than the DMG for that plane. I have absolutly nothing planned for this location. I could not have expected this. It's taken me a week to come up with good ideas on what to do now :P |
| bobotheguy02-18-08, 04:54 PM | Probably one of my moments involved a dungeon crawl, of which I missed the first session. So I joined up, and theyre in a square room with 3 levers on the wall. The party is sitting there wasting time debating the purpose of these levers. Well, I get bored and announce to the DM im going to pull a lever. All the rest of the party runs into another room and shuts a door. So I pull the first lever, and nothing happens. My character plays "Boy who Cried Wolf" and starts screaming. The Party runs in scared to find me laughing my ass off. I go to pull another lever, and they run into the room. Again, nothing happens. So I scream. they run in, and now they are ******. Then comes the thirs lever, and I pull it while the Party is still in the room, which pisses a lot of people off... And the wall explodes! Out pops a beholder (1st lever, released one cell, 2nd lever, 2nd cell, 3rd lever, disabled the aniti magic field) We fight and slay it, and then a Wu jen, "The Sand Mistress" uses magic Jar to dominate our Barbarian, so we pull the 3rd lever and run into the cell with the antimagic field. Now WE became the prisoners... Bobo |
