| pblogic03-15-04, 09:52 PM | So, the core books are updated to 3.5 However things like monsters of Faerun are NOT. Hmmmm So, how difficult is it to use monsters of Faerun and other such supplements? Also, how diffiult is it to just use the SRD to keep your 3.0 books? Is it hard to use the SRD rather than just get the new books? |
| Mumbling Rogue03-15-04, 09:55 PM | Remember 3.5 is fairly new. They hadn't even finished all the 3.0 books before 3.5 came out. You can get a few web enhancements, since some of the books (like Manual of the Planes, etc.) won't be reprinted. The web enchancements are right here on the WoTC site. |

Is it hard to use the SRD rather than just get the new books? You can find a fairly complete update of all the creatures in Monsters of Faerūn RIGHT HERE (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/we/20040313a). Note that this update also includes revisions for Magic of Faerūn, City of the Spider Queen, etc... I recommend purchasing the 3.5 Player's Handbook along with using the SRD for Monsters and rules references. This (in my opinion) is much easeir than trying to mix the 3.0 Core Books with the 3.5 SRD. Have a nice day! :D |
| pblogic03-16-04, 05:25 AM | I'm sorry but I am REALLY confused and I am trying to make the best decision for my group. I was considering 3.5 to upgrade my 3.0, however, it looks like there are not ANY? adventures for 3.5? What products exactly are going to be 3.5 I don't want to be jaded but I am feeling really confused and a little upset. I feel like the only way I can play D$D now is to mix and match editions, and fix things with downloaded web enhancments On the one hand, while I do appreciate the web enhancements I dont like them. I just want all my stuff to be one edition. I don't udnerstand the logic behind any of this. Any help appreciated, I need to figure out what to do for my group. As I said, I was going to get 3.5 but then I see that the adventure path adventures are not compatible (without modification0 etc.. The idea of having to modify everything I buy makes me very unhappy. Is there anyway around this? |
| Seeker9503-16-04, 07:35 AM | There are plenty of adventures made for 3.5 out there. It is just that they are made by third party publishers. Adventures have a lower profit margin than supplements, since only the DM (technically) can buy the adventures. By definition (with an average party size of 4 players) an adventure is targeted at only 20% of the market. A player-supplement is targets toward nearly 100% of the market. Go to your local gaming store and ask the dude/tte behind the counter to point you toward 3.5-written adventures. There are lots of them out there. |
| pblogic03-16-04, 02:43 PM | Thanks for all the advice. I took the plunge |
| pblogic03-17-04, 03:46 AM | Another issues I am concerned with is this: How will the epic levle book work with 3.5? Also, are the prestige classes in the forgotten realms book 3.5 compatible? |
| Escef03-17-04, 04:13 AM | Epic and planer material have been included in the 3.5 DMG. The FRCS prestige classes should fit finely into a 3.5 campaign with little to no modification. As for 3.5 adventures, may I suggest Dungeon magazine? They have decent material in each issue that even if you can't use the adventures, you can at least lift locations, traps, or NPCs out of them for your own use. |

I will indeed have a look at Dungeon Thank you Do you guys subscribe to it? is it cheaper to subscribe than it is to buy it monthly? |
| Escef03-17-04, 02:46 PM | Dungeon is bi-monthly (published every other month). As with all magazines, it is cheaper to subscribe. (At least in the U.S.A., I don't know about other countries.) I subscribe to it, I'm actually very interested in running "Test of the Smoking Eye" from a couple issues back, butsince I haven't DMed for a while, and probably won't be DMing again for some time, it'll have to wait. Oh, and subscribers tend to get their issues 1 or 2 weeks before the stores. |
| pblogic03-17-04, 02:59 PM | I took a look at the subscription. It's the same wheter you buy it monthly or not from amazon 7.5 x 6 = 45$ I'm glad you guys enjoy it but 45$ for 6 issues seems too high to me. However, I will mix and match them. I'll buy them in months I think I can actually use thier stuff. |
| Seeker9503-17-04, 04:23 PM | Escef is behind the times. Dungeon went monthly about a year ago. The $45 gets you an issue every month for a year. Two-thirds of every issue is adventures, hooks, side-treks and encounters. The other third is a Polyhedron feature (with four issues containing a complete stand-alone d20 mini-game!) It is definitely worth it! |
