Creating a sorcerer: what's a spell save, how does it work, how do I use it in the game? Also, how do I figure out what my arcane spell failure is?

Thanks

Ok a spell save is the DC of a save on certain spells (see discription) to see if the target resists it. It is (I belive, book not at hand at moment) Casters level+Spell level+(In a sorcerors case) charisma modifier+misselanious(sp?) modifier (Like a feat or item or somthing).
Arcane spell failure is the chance a spell fails due to whereing armor (only if it has somantic components, which most do). Spell Failure is in the discription of armor and shields, but as a sorceror you really should not where armor so dont worry to much about it. Glad to help:)

the formula for the save DC of a spell is as follows:

10 + level of spell + your ability modifier(in the case of a sorc, your CHA modifier) + any miscellaneous modifiers you have(such as the spell focus feat or some such)

for instance, if youre a 6th-level sorc with spell focus(evocation) with CHA of 17 casting fireball, the DC of the reflex save would be 17(10 + 3(3rd level spell) + 3(17 has an ability modifier of 3) + 1(since fireball is an evocation spell))

Calculating your spell save DC is not used by the character directly (usually). The save DC affects the number the target of that spell has to get or exceed when he makes a saving throw against it.

A level 1 spell has a DC of 10 +1(first level spell) + your relevant ability modifier (CHA for Sorcerers, INT for Wizards etc.).

A level 2 spell has a DC of 10 +2(2nd level spell) + your relevant ability modifier.

Your caster level, which is the number of levels you have in the class that grants a particular spell (or half of your level in the case of rangers and paladins) does not enter into determining your spell save DC.

The higher your ability modifier, and the higher the spell level, the harder it is for the target to make his saving throw.

Your Arcane Spell Failure chance is the sum total of all the arcane spell failure percentages of the armor you are wearing. Divine spells (from a cleric or ranger etc) are not subject to failure chance based on armor.

In general, armor always has an arcane spell failure chance. The heavier the armor, the higher the chance of failure. This represents that the armor interferes with the gestures required to cast arcane spells (you can't move correctly). Armor and shields carry arcane failure chance, which is listed in their entries on the tables for Armor and Shields in the Player's Handbook.

Several spells and enchantments can reduce a piece of armor's arcane spell failure chance, but normally a sorcerer would not wear any armor. To increase your armor class, consider items like Bracers of Armor, and increasing your Dexterity score. There are spells like Shield and Mage Armor as well, but be aware not all armor bonuses stack with each other.

Where in the PHB is this found? I need to know the EXACT (word-for-word) spell DC description. For some reason, I can't find it.

check under the sorcerer class description, under their "spells" class feature.

In the PHB, you can find it on pages 176-177.

Hope that helps.
