| ieattrollsforbreakfast02-28-04, 05:18 PM | I have decided to buy another book, but since I havent bought one since the Draconomicon, there are a few new ones that I fancy. The trouble is, I cant decide which! The books I am thinking about buying are: 1. Unearthed Arcana 2. Arms and Equipment Guide 3. Complete Warrior 4. Book of Vile Darkness 5. Manual of the Planes Just for the record, I am a DM, currently running a mid-level, but should carry on to higher levels, so I can see myself using all of these. On the BoVD, I'm a little uncertain about it. I would like to use it as a tool for villains in my campaign, not for running evil campaigns, so I'm not sure if it will get as much use as I want. So, and recommendations/advice? |
| velocityhead02-28-04, 05:31 PM | This is the order I would place them: 1) Complete Warrior 2) Unearthed Arcana 3) Book of Vile Darkness 4) Manual of the Planes 5) Arms and Equipment Guide Personally, this is how I would place them......I've found the Arms and Equipment Guide to be utterly useless..... The Manual of the Planes isn't that bad at all, but it's usually not very relevant to the games I run. The Complete Warrior, despite all of the good and bad things that have been said about it, can be a very good resource. I find the feats to be useful, and can further your character concept. The classes are always nice, and if you haven't bought the 3.0 Sword and Fist, then I think it is definately worth it. |
| magic wyrm02-28-04, 05:39 PM | i'd go complete warrior |
| Nighttfall02-29-04, 03:10 AM | UA I'd save until you've mastered the system. Complete Warrior is good for DMs,better for players. My advice, get a monster book like Tome of Horrors II or Fiend Folio. |
| ieattrollsforbreakfast02-29-04, 03:30 AM | If it helps, I already own the following books: 3.5 Core books Draconomicon Savage Species MM2 Fiend Folio Book of Exalted Deeds Im leaning over to CW, but keep the advice coming :) |
| Cog02-29-04, 06:43 AM | I'd go for the Complete Warrior. Although the BoVD has some REALLY evil monsters for the CR rating they have been given (the Slaughterking for one). I didn't find the A&EG guide that bad. |
| ieattrollsforbreakfast02-29-04, 05:07 PM | So I've bought CW, just got to wait for it to be delivered. The question is though...what next? I'm thinking UA next...but still not sure. |
| Kaya Kenobi03-01-04, 08:57 AM | Here's my thoughts on the other books: 1. Unearthed Arcana Very nice, little fluff.. lots and lots of crunch. If you want a lot of info on it, go to the Unearthed Arcana board. There's a huge amount of discussions about this book. 2. Arms and Equipment Guide Just go for the Ultimate Equipment Guide by Mongoose. It's far far FAR better than this book can ever dream of being. I have yet to make use of this book, as where I've used the UEG in almost all of my gaming sessions (has around a thousand mudane items) 3. Complete Warrior You're already getting it, so good.. :D 4. Book of Vile Darkness I found it more gross than useful. The main things I like was the poisons, drugs, and some of the spells. The feats are mostly awful, and a lot of other junk in the book is useless. At least it has the lord of nine and Orcus... 5. Manual of the Planes It's useful, but as far as needing it, get it on eBay because it's really cheap there. |
| Disturbed103-01-04, 11:35 AM | i got the complete warrior cpouple wks ago, worth the moey, good book...although you can never overestimate the power of another book filled with things to kill your players with... dis1 |
