the unearthed arcana is a fun book, but i cant recomend it. it sometimes complicates "bace rules". but for a good time call "savage species".

hey, can you tell me where to find that "test" you're referrencing in your sig?

I'd recommend the XPH as a must have.
And to go with that, you're going to need a setting that actually uses Psionics, so that means Eberron. And with Eberron, Sharn: City of Towers is a must have book.

Funny thing, I've taken 2 alignment tests, one said Lawful Good, the next said true neutral.
And yet, people who know me allways say chaotic evil...

So, what exactly is the DMG II?

So, what exactly is the DMG II?Not much, really. Its just some tips and tricks. If you're a new DM that isn't quite sure what they're doing yet, it is helpful. If you know what you're doing, its not worth much at all. If you're a player, there's nothing in there for you at all, as there's no player usable stuff at all.

Ah, nevermind then, last time I DM'd, it wasn't pretty.

if you are looking to expand your horizons, then i have to agree. the psionics hand book is great. where else are you going to find "control body". it sounds sick but when you take an opponent out with a swift punch in the !#^# by there own hand... its sweet. your players and you will love it.

ok, as a PC only (no Dming) is it overkill to get both Forgotten Realms campaign setting, and Players Guide to Faerun?
Same question for Ebberron setting and Players Guide to Ebberron.

Helped me alot...................

You probably will not need Draconiconagoamonagon if you are getting the races of series, which includes the up coming races of the dragon. That original one is 3.0 anyway, and a blatant power up for the sorceror.

I would say that what you should buy depends on whether or not you are a DM.

If you are a DM:

1) Are you running or planning to run either Ebberon or Forgotten Realms? If so, get the books for the appropriate setting.

2) Are you a new Dungeon Master? If so get the Dungeon Masters Guide II (experienced DMs find it either valuable or a waste of money).

3) If you are an experienced DM, especially one creating his or her own world, get Unearthed Arcana. It is chock full of optional rules to help you tailor the game to match your vision of fantasy. It also contains variant classes that help alter the PHB classes to give them a different feel (e.g., barbarians that don't rage, wilderness rogues, rogues who get bonus feats instead of sneak attack, arcane sage bards, divine bards, etc.).

If you are a Player:
Unless you either plan to DM at some point or don't mind picking up the books for just reading, find out what books the DM allows in the campaign. Not every DM allows all the books.

To help you with your decisions, you can also try going to the review section of the ENWorld site (http://www.enworld.org). I have provided the link to the main site, but you will need to find the link to the reviews.

Now my list of books to get based on my preferences as a DM:
From WOTC:
Spell Compendium
Unearthed Arcana
Book of Vile Darkness: IMO, this is a tool for the DM. It is not a book for players unless the DM is running an evil campaign. Its not a perfect book
Dragonomicon
Stormwrack

From companies other than WOTC (note: Most of these are 3.0 products, but they are still useable use with 3.5). The following are all 4/5 or 5/5 rated books at ENWorld and worth checking out

Mercenaries (AEG)
Path of Faith (Fantasy Flight Games)
Path of Magic (Fantasy Flight Games)
Path of Shadow (Fantasy Flight Games)
Path of Swords (Fantasy Flight Games)
Seafarer's Handbook (Fantasy Flight Games)
Traps and Treachery (Fantasy Flight Games)
Advanced Bestiary (Green Ronin)
Psychic's Handbook (Green Ronin) * 3.5 update for free on GR website
Shaman's Handbook (Green Ronin) * 3.5 update for free on GR website
Witch's Handbook (Green Ronin) * 3.5 update for free on GR website
Book of Roguish Luck (Malhavoc)
Complete Book of Eldritch Might (Malhavoc)
Book of Hallowed Might (Malhavoc)
Book of Iron Migh (Malhavoc)
Quintessential Barbarian (Mongoose)
Quintessential Bard (Mongoose)
Quintessential Cleric (Mongoose)

Actually, I've been thinking of trying DMing again, in an Ebberron setting (since I'm having trouble finding an Ebberron group and I love the setting).
Not sure how well it'll go though, and I'll most likely stick to pre-constructed modules for a bit.

As far as non WotC books, I've found that it can be alot more difficult to get a DM to allow anything in from these books, double goes for if they're 3.0 based and it's a 3.5 campaign.
