I do a little bit, just starting take classes and i've been to japan once.

you could probably use one of these 4 and a japanese gamer would know what your talking about. they may have a differant word for our actuall meaning of a "roleplaying game". but these should work.

Yakusha engi
yakusha geki
yakuwari engi
yakuwari geki (this is the literal translation for "roleplay")

Hahaha . . . clever. :)
You know, I was always under the impression that di was not a syllable used in Japanese, but I guess they do have a symbol for it in katakana (which is used for foreign words), so they may actually call it dii and dii.

10-07-05, 01:43 AM For computer RPGs, the Japanese just say "RPG"... with the individual letters pronounced like they are in English. I've never read any texts referring specifially to PnP RPGs, so I'm not 100% sure if they're called the same, but I think it's pretty likely.

Computer RPGs made the term pretty mainstream here.

And "Danjionzu ando Doragonzu" is the name of the game. Older folks are likely to pronounce the letter D as "de" (sounds like English "day") but younger folks have learned from foreign teachers to pronounce it "di" (which is written with the character for "de" plus a small "i" character in katakana).
