Anyone else insert some holiday themes into their recent games? [Archive] - Wizards Community

For my first and second DMing experiences ever (two separate gaming groups) last week I tried inserting a little holiday theme into the games (see below). Being a complete newbie at this I am wondering what some of the more experienced DMs and players might have done. Maybe special items, adventures, monsters, NPCs, locations, etc.? Maybe you just gave them a gift wrapped magic item in game? Thinking back there were so many things I could have tried.

(Animated objects which the players had to track down for the owner. After taking them back to their camp and falling asleep for the night the PC taking watch got a little surprise.:D)

12-24-07, 04:03 PM I sadly had never been able to insert holiday themes into any of my games because they usually wind up ending before the holidays really start :weep: .

Though, hopfully next year when I finally get my new gaming group together (going to be moving into our new house next week, and sadly, where we are moving to is a bit too far to ask my former players to commute to), I will acctually have a group that will be able to take advantage of such things.

(as a side note: anyone in the Bellville, IL area wanting a game to play in and don't mind having very sweet, very cute little girls underfoot for a few hrs, contact me ;) as that is where I am going to be moving to.)

12-25-07, 02:30 PM I can think of a snow golem, noble fir treants, animated peppermint confectionery concocted by a 200 year old sorceress with the mentality of a little girl, and a druid with eight stags as animal companions.

I used to live near Belville, IL in a nice little town called 'Pleasent Hill'. About a thirty..maybe forty minute drive from Belville. Love the people in all, but not much in the way of local gamers. Or from at least what I have experienced.

On another note I incorporated a mammon like demon with flesh of Red/black in my game. He lived solely to syphon all the joy out of alms, giving, charity, etc. This demon was defeated by a staff that looked remarkably akin to a fig. Later the Pc's sung around a huge tree in the centre of the community with all the locals celebrating the demons defeat and the Pc's victory.

12-26-07, 08:51 AM Santa visits my characters and gives them magic items from his bag of goodies. It doesn't matter what the time is in the game; it happens when it's around Christmas.

It's a fantasy game, shut up.

12-26-07, 02:54 PM I started running a modified version of Pathfinder's Skinsaw Murders. So, it seems my holiday game is The Nightmare Before Christmas. ;)

12-26-07, 09:37 PM I have occasionally used a holiday related adventure. In my D20 past campaign, maximum creepiness and terror happened around Halloween as they dealt with Count Strahd von Zarovich, deep in Transylvania.

I have roughed out a Christmas adventure for them for next year.

And I have a MAJOR campaign even possible around Easter...if they are in the right place at the time, events around the Dublin General Post Office could be lively... 'Tis the Rising of the Moon!
