| Lokathor09-14-06, 02:32 AM | It appears to be full of Dragon Magazine material, based on the description on the page. |
| petin09-14-06, 03:05 AM | I bought it and love it. I haven't used it yet in a game, but its packed full of fun information and useful things. |
| GreyLord09-14-06, 03:35 AM | What does it cover, or what is actually in it of interest? |
| StrahdVonZarovich09-14-06, 03:55 AM | It covers new kind of weapons, stats for the new yellow, purple and orange dragons, new races and manyt other thigs that I can't remember at this hour of the day. |
| Richmud09-14-06, 08:46 AM | Its got a bunch of races, classes, PrCs, magic items, feats, weapons, followed by some old reprinted articles. A lot of nice stuff. The Tibbit (catweres), Dvati (single souled twins), and Diopsid (multiarmed bugs) races are very interesting The battle dancer (chaotic aligned unarmed fighter with tumble based abilities), mountebank (power from selling soul), and Sha'ir (genie connected sorc with unusual spellknown method) are very interesting classes and the urban druid is a good varient for games that normally don't nvolve durids because they occur mostly in cities. The prestige classes are nice, particularly the force missle mage (magic missle expert). Too many good feats, weapons, and magic items to mention. |
| Cryforge09-14-06, 06:18 PM | One of the best supplements I have ever read. Mind you, there are a lot of typos and such that you can find errata for on Paizo's website, but it's still a great book. Great races, great classes, great PrCs, great spells, great feats, great weapons, great magic items, great art, great crunch, great fluff, great monsters, great-well, you get the idea. If you get a chance, be sure to pick it up. It makes gamers smile. :D |
| cat_god09-14-06, 07:07 PM | I don't have. I sort of want to pick it up though. I do have the magazine with the Force Missle Mage, and yes, he is cool. |
| d2447866709-14-06, 07:59 PM | Does it have Paraelemental/Quasielemental Genasi? are there even quasielemental genasi? |
| GreyLord09-14-06, 08:21 PM | Thanks, I'm seriously considering picking this up. |
| DragonChild_09-14-06, 08:37 PM | I'm going to have to give a dissenting opinion. This is one of the worst books I've ever seen. Of the classes, two of which are pretty much completely unplayable in any adventuring party if you actually want to be useful. The prestige classes also suffer from hideous underpoweredness and poor design. There's a monk PrC that's all about "hating spellcasters" - yet requires you to somehow make your way to limbo and back, and gives you abilties that are outright weaker than stunning fist for the first few levels. This is just one of the biggest examples. The races suffer just as much, with most of them being just too weak to use. They're certainly interesting, yes... but be prepared to totally rewrite anything you plan on using for your games. |
| supernerd22209-14-06, 09:39 PM | See that, up there? It's the first negative comment I have ever heard about this book. I've seen about 100 comments, so there is a 99ish % chance you'll like it. I did. |
| Dexter_Blacktyde09-14-06, 10:08 PM | Make that 98% - I have to agree with DragonChild. It's certainly not the worst book I've ever seen, far from it, but it left me pretty underwhelmed. Of course most of its contents depend on personal taste, but there is very little I'm planning to use. None of the new races, none of the new monsters, only one of the new classes (the Sha'ir), none of the spell templates, none of the glyphs, not very much at all, really. I liked the chapter on runes, the new alchemical items, the toxins of Cerilon... yeah, that's about it. As far as I'm concerned, the DC is most certainly not worth its price tag. DB |
| babysamurai09-15-06, 04:39 AM | I’m with majority on this one - this book rocks the free world! It has something for every one – new races/classes/feats/prestige classes/spells/weapons/monsters/magic items etc |
| thesoulcollector09-15-06, 09:40 AM | I’m with majority on this one - this book rocks the free world! It has something for every one – new races/classes/feats/prestige classes/spells/weapons/monsters/magic items etc I have to agree. I have used this book quite a bit already. There are lots of useful feats and quite a few cool monsters. I like the seelie and unseelie fey and I really love the yellow, orange and especially purple dragons too! One thing I was hoping to be in there updated for 3.5 was the swashbuckling and parrying rules though, but since they were done in 3.0 they are easy enough to convert over yourself I suppose. This book may not be for everyone but I am glad I bought it! :) |
| babysamurai09-15-06, 09:51 AM | I like the seelie and unseelie fey Considering I have a Campaign with a heavy Unseelie Court theme going, these were a godsend. |
| PolasKasDorion09-15-06, 10:00 AM | I enjoy the book. I probably wouldn't have picked it up on my own (got it as a birthday present) but it turned out to be a lot of fun. Is it odd that I'm pre-dispossed to liking it because it has glossy pages? :rolleye2: As mentioned before ,the Force Missile Mage is cool. I really like the magic items in the book. And really... who doesn't like a good playable cat race? |
| TheCarrionCrawler09-15-06, 12:00 PM | Does it have Paraelemental/Quasielemental Genasi? are there even quasielemental genasi? No, the Axani, Cansin and Para-genasi are not reprinted in the Dragon Compendium, which is a shame because I loved that article! Also, I really enjoy the book. I think it's one of the best books out there and the presentation is excellent. |
| d2447866709-15-06, 02:06 PM | im sorry, i dont know what the Axani/Cansin are...what magazine #? i plan to buy 297 soon.... |
