Anyone know of a computerized map of some sort? [Archive] - Wizards Community

I rarely get a chance to actually go out and role play with others, so the best thing i can do is RP alone, or on AIM usually. And trust me, being the DM and only player gets boring relatively fast. So, does anyone know of a map generator? Or better yet, one that is interactive? Where you can actually place a marker down on the computer and move around?

I was thinking of making something like this, where you have a marker on a board. With a messaging system, a place where you could put the stats of your character; but I haven't had any time. I also do not know of one, there is a lot of online text D&D engines, you do not have a marker, it's just words, but you can put in your stats.

Try to google "open RPG", you should find what you're looking for.

Give me the URL to one of those online text D&D engines. I'll try it out. Thanks! ^_^

Try www.bin.sh/gaming/tools/dungeon.cgi You will have to type the url yourself, wizard won't let you connect to the website from here.

Why not play Neverwinter Nights or Icewind Dale II or some kind? I think that'll be more fun than play alone...

He's talking about playing D&D over AIM, which I have done to various amounts of success.

Speaking of map generators, does anybody know of a good map creator? Kind of like Heroforge, except for making maps for sessions. I'm getting ready to start up a massive/complicated campaign and i need a fast way to make maps. (see sign under COMPITUM for the massive/complicated campaign setting)

What kind of map creator? This is going to be online I'm guessing, so what format do you want them in?

Also, I have a break coming up on frriday(not including the weekend). So I would be willing to make an online thing like this, but what I would like is things you want in it. I have an idea what will be in the first version, but I could add on to it and make it better.

*Stat inputer.
*Icon on screen(will probably just be a circle with a different color of letter for each character or monster)
*Messaging system(like a chatting system for that seesion)
*Up to 5 players(1 DM and 4 Players)
*A random dice roller, all players will be able to see that roll.

Most of the functions will probably be manual, you will have to change your level, items, etc...

To Killcode, :P

Everything you said for the map creator. Possibly even a monster generator on some of the squares. (I.E. Styx moves to "this square" something pops out!) That'd be real cool. Also, possibly make it somewhat playable without a DM. By randomly generating a dungeon, having monsters in certain areas, and different obstacles based on the characters level. And if a monster or something comes up, have it switch screens... Well that's what my imagination conjured up, but it seems more like a full game rather than a map generator ^.^ Also, what are compatible formats for something like this? Do you mean java or flash? Or something else...

Making games is not very hard, I can make a game like megaman in around an hour, I have made Zelda fan games, Doom fan games, a lot of them I got mostly done and just got bored, but this is pretty easy, I will get started maybe today.

Kewl! One last thing, this may sound stupid or dumb, but this is the best example I can think of. Pokemon battle screen set-up. Remember how the screen looked when you found a pokemon to battle in the gameboy games? Could you make it like that kind of, except with text and stats at the bottom instead of the player's image and attack animations? So just show some monster of some sort, and when you do something it shows it in the text box. And have the Hit points kind of like the old pokemon meters... With the HP for the characters at the bottom with a meter, and the same for the monster... And instead of a monster image, have the name there if we can't get images...

I'll get started soon, I'm not so good with online programming, so I'm bringing in a friend who specializes in it. It might be a little laggy on the first version(I doubt it though). Already I have made a random dice roller, movement, and thats about it. I'm programming the stats right now, but again, you will be able to put any number in the stats, because some players have much higher things than some of the low levels characters, so I know right now that some people will probably make them selves level 99. The first verssion will probably have no graphics except for circles and letters, maybe squares.

hmmm. mebbe we should have some kind of password or code to be specific levels... or by saving your own character with a string of code... Something like: 14248293. Where a certain number in a certain spot means a certain thing... Or for the first version, restrict levels above 20? And then somewhere along the line create an epic version.

Hopefully most players will be from here, and most players here play this game seriously. Also, anyone who wants to have their dungeons in the game please pm them to me, I'm a pretty good pixel artist and I know a lot of better ones than me, so we will have quality maps.

Okay so everything on it will be what?
This is such a bit***** idea!
*Stat inputer.
*Marker for location
*Messaging system
*Up to 5 players(1 DM and 4 Players)
*A random dice roller, all players will be able to see that roll.
*Some battle system.

And what else...

Yes, except for the automatic DM, I might be able to have the monster attack on their own, and maybe a DM that talks on its own, anything more complicated could take a week or two. But the rest of what you said will be in it.
Mr. Styx

03-15-05, 09:12 PM
How about at the end of battles, the amount of XP per person appears... Styx is lvl 1, and defeated a CR 1 monster. He gained 300 XP...
and how about, if you have extra time (this probably will be much easier), a version that is for single player. Like campaigning alone for XP and everything when no one else is on, or when you are just beginning D&D and need a feel for the rules or the program...
killcode

03-15-05, 09:18 PM
Yea, what I said is only for the first version, I'm not going to e able to finish this in like a week, maybe a couple and it will be pretty good. It will have a built in hp, exp, attacking system. Also to make all the spells will take even longer, cause there are a lot of them, but I might make it to where you say how much damage is added onto it(1+1d10) etc... This game will be for more responsible players.
Mr. Styx

03-15-05, 09:30 PM
Yeah, this will take a while, we need feats, skills, spells etc. One big question i have is, will we have things like psionics, or different races or skills and feats from psionics etc? An idea for races could be like this during character creation: http://www.pathguy.com/cg35.htm
Scroll down 'till you find the section named "Race" It has a large selection of choices, which have predetermined stat and ability modifiers... But scroll down a wee bit further and you see another choice with the words "Other Race" typed in a box. We could have the base races, and have that little extra thing for something else...

I was thinking about just having you fill out a character sheet before you play, then you can just use that.
Mr. Styx

03-15-05, 09:45 PM
>.> that works too lol. So what you are saying is:A) a character sheet that is in the program. B) an actual sheet you fill out with pen or pencil...

[I think you mean A but i'm not sure]
killcode

03-15-05, 10:28 PM
A character sheet that looks just like the one you print out but you can type in the stuff. Then the program sets variables for each player for each thing you type in.

player1name = "Maus";
player1class = "Ranger";
player1hp = 16;
etc...

okay then, so i assume the window will take up the full screen? ¬.¬

I can make a button to where it switches between windowed and fullscreen easy enough.

I wanna learn to program, but there aren't any classes that i know of in highschool.. ;_;
