I live in a really rural area, and I was recently introduced to D&D by my cousin. He has gotten me into it, and now 2 weeks later I'm making my thrid character (my first totally correct character following all the rules) and looking for people to play with routinely.

I was wondering if anyone plays over the internet through instant messaging like AIM or MSN? I can't go to a gaming store or meet with people so this is my only option basically.

Anyone do this? Anyone want to do this sometime with a brand new player that is dedicated to learning.

Thanks,
Briwa

That or a forum, I recommend Proboards for the purpose. It's not a new thing, just kinda harder.

AIM? MSN?

Ewww. You do know there are programs for this sort of thing (openrpg.digitalxero.net/wiki/index.php?page=Online+RPG+Tool+Compariso ns), right? GOOD ones at that?

(I'm actually playing in one of my two weekly OpenRPG games RIGHT NOW. I just stole the spotlight for a brief moment and am waiting for the others to finish their actions as I type.)

Oh, wow. Nice thing to know about... How did you get involved with your current group? I don't see a forum for that thing, and coming from playing alot of online games I'm pretty accoustomed to the clan thing.

Sounds fun. Thanks for the info

Most of us worked together on a book last year. We decided to start gaming then, since I brought up OpenRPG. The ones who weren't working on the book were invited by those who were.

One of them, I'd gamed with before, in my first OpenRPG game. We moved there from IRC, which is where we met.

OpenRPG's lobbies and forums have pick-up games sometimes starting there (look for the word "recruiting"). Otherwise, browse other forums or start your own game.

Just because I happened upon this thread, let me point out a couple things.

1) There's the WotC RPG Live! (http://boards1.wizards.com/chatlogin.php?instance=rpg&group=4&chathost=chatrpg.wizards.com) chat area where gaming takes place.

2) I am working with other members of the Knowledge Arcana (http://wizo.wizards.com/ka/) staff on building a setting (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=836492) for people to play in. We meet on Tuesdays (http://boards1.wizards.com/calendar.php) and you--the community members--get to build this setting.

IM no, but I am an online DM. Would prefer to relax and play though. :P
