If so, do you prefer them to the newer editions?

02-25-06, 06:01 PM No, and No. I also dont bleed myself to get the evil spirits out when I get a cold. The game is so much better, in terms of streamlined, easy to understand and reasonably balanced rules, it makes me wonder how anyone could prefer 2nd edition aside from simple nostalgia.

Why? Because these types of threads always turn into flame wars between people who prefer different editions.

Plenty of people still use the old rules. Some prefer 2nd edition AD&D, some think 2E sucks, and prefer 1st edition AD&D, others like the Basic/Expert D&D rules from the 80s.... they all have their good/bad points.

Anyway... if you really want to talk about out-of-print rules, you can post here (http://boards1.wizards.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&daysprune=30&f=54). That's an area of these boards specifically for out-of-print discussions. Just don't go asking what they think of 3rd edition (or 3.5), that will just lead to the thread being closed.

But yeah, I still play AD&D (1st edition though). WOTC's D&D doesnt contain anything that I actually want, which I cant get in existing games I play (GURPS, Warhammer FRP etc)
Hence, I dont bother.

I like to hang out on these boards, as there's a fair amount of generic D&D talk, thats not relevant to a specific edition or version.

Is your favorite ice cream flavor better than everyone else's too, or would you say it's just a matter of personal taste?
