However, I can only find one decent video game: "Dungeons & Dragons: Tactics" -- but this is apparently only for the PSP and I don't have one! Does anyone know if they make a game like this for the PS2 or X-Box or even the PC? I had "Pool of Radiance" for the PC but it used 3.0 rules instead of 3.5. Again, that "Tactics" game looks really neat, but I don't know if they have any plans for making it for other systems. If you know of any other game out there that uses the 3.5 Turn-based system, let me know! (And I don't think I'm interested in the D&D online - sorry!) |

The Baldur's Gate series, Neverwinter Nights series, and D&D Online all use a real-time system (although it is round-based as the RPG is). Now, in NWN and Baldur's Gate you can set it to automatically pause the game at the end of each round to simulate a turn-based game, but that's about as close as you can get (keeping in mind that Baldur's Gate is a 2e series). |

Although it may have enough patches out to make it run smoothly now, it had a lot of problems even a year after it was released. Also, the frequent lack of payoff in that game was pretty annoying (had to spend 100 gold to cast Identify on every magic item, even if said item had a resale value that was much lower, quests often paid less than the cost of resources required to complete them, ect). And punching out the hirelings to keep them from hogging all the good loot really got old. |
