I have been struck by another of my random ideas, and in the middle of it realised I need to look up info on the Blood War.

Is there anywhere online or published with a lot of info on the Blood War, including where and how the Yugoloths fit into this (if they do at all)

In 3.0 or 3.5? Not so much, at least as far as I'm aware. But if you can get your hands on it, the second edition Planescape books had some great information. And fortunately, a lot of them are mostly flavor and other information that's not rules-specific, so the older version doesn't really matter. I've managed to get two books (though not specifically on the Blood War) and they're very good reading. I'd recommend asking around the Deities and the Planes board if you want specific books to look into.

Fiendish Codex 1 has a bunch of info. Nothing on Yugoloths though.

What you want is Hellbound: the blood war. It is a pllanescape boxed set, and very cool. I got mine because I am also currently running a bloodwar game.

Unfortunetly, I had to get it off of Evilbay for $90 plus shipping. Big ouch there, but it does have a lot on the bloodwar.

In 3.x: the 3e Manual of the Planes discusses the Blood War, and the involvement of the Yugoloths to some degree, and the BoVD very briefly discusses the Blood War as well. Tome of Battle also briefly touches the subject, along with a sample of both Tanar'ri and Baatezu forces in the conflict.

However the best detail on the Blood War is going to be from the various 2e Planescape books (all of which are available in pdf form if you don't want to shell out money on ebay). Specifically: Hellbound: The Blood War is -the- comprehensive source on the topic. Additionally you'll find 'Faces of Evil: The Fiends' of use for its general (and very in depth) discussion of the fiend races themselves, their history, heirarchy, ecology, etc.

In brief summary however, here's what role the Yugoloths play in the War Eternal: they engineered the start of the Blood War, they view it as their own grand experiment into the true nature of Evil, and they seek to manipulate both Baatezu and Tanar'ri to make sure that the war doesn't end till they're ready to end it on their own terms, with a unified lower planes under their thumb.

The lower castes of yugoloths are fodder for the Blood War, dumb mercenaries for sale by their rulers to the highest bidder, but the upper echelons of their kind are in some ways the secret puppeteers of the Lower Planes, pulling the strings of the other fiends and making them dance to their own tune as best they can.

Suffice to say, the 'loths are the oldest of the primary fiend races, and seem to have had a hand, intentionally or inadvertantly, in creating the Tanar'ri and Baatezu (or, according to the Fiendish Codex I, they might have instead created the Obyriths and Ancient Baatorians, the precursors of the current major CE and LE fiend races).

If you have any specific questions I'll answer them. *grin*

Is Hellbound available from Wizards, or would I have to search elsewhere?

if it's somewhere on Wizards, could I get a link?

Wizards doesn't directly sell their own material from older editions.

However www.paizo.com and www.rpgnow.com both sell PDFs of pre-3e books for pretty cheap. I'll recommend the paizo site.

Link to the paizo offering of Hellbound: right over here, only $4 (http://paizo.com/store/downloads/wizardsOfTheCoast/aDAndD2/planescape/v5748btpy7mo1)

As an FYI, you can get this book and any other Planescape stuff from www.svgames.com

Another good book is the book "Faces of Evil: the Fiends". I'm not quite sure if that is what it is called, but it is a sourcebook on Baatezu, Tanar'ri, Yugoloths, and Gehreleths that you can find on the side. Really good information.

It is a legal pdf download site where each download costs only 5 bucks. If you pay $90 plus shipping, you are getting ripped off ;)

I know it's a bit meager, but I have one source that has a little bit of info, albeit not necessarily immediately at hand:
There was a game a few years back for PC called Planescape: Torment, in which the main character known only as the Nameless One is trying of discover his identity. He discovers that he made a pact with a hag giving up his mortality in order to escape the Blood War. I don't remember many specific details about what it said about it, but it was interesting; and honestly, I don't know where you'd find it. I got it in a two pack at Best Buy. I don't know if it's still available.

Shemeska, maybe you could answer before paizo's customer service does. Is there any way to pay for the PDF besides credit card? my dad refuses to uses his card over the internet.

Paizo.com gives you just about every book Wizard's ever made for the low low price of $4.00. In PDF form, but that shouldn't be a problem for a flavor book. I bought Return to the Tomb of Horrors from them when Amizon was charging $60 plus shipping for one in good condition.

As for info, make it up! I dont know about official stuff, but I say Yugoloths are mercinaries that fight for whoever will pay them more. For other details, get Manuel of the Planes, it has a lot about planear stuff and can help you, and when you need details just make them up. If you have writer's block though, I highely recomend Planescape books, you can save a fortune by buying them PDF from Paizo.

Not a clue.

I used my card to buy something from paizo, and I've never heard of them having problems with their billing system.
