AoO trip and grapple [Archive] - Wizards Community

05-17-07, 02:06 AM i was reading in the archives about an oponent moving past your character obviously provoking an AoO now what i dont understand is that it says

"Some of the less obvious attack options are still available with attacks of opportunity. For example, an opponent charges by your PC to attack the spellcaster or archer in the back rank. Use a trip attack, which may very well ensure that he doesn't get an attack off that round, and he'll provoke another attack by standing. Or perhaps a cleric with a really high Armor Class tries to cast a spell next to your character. So, grab him with a grapple check."

is this stating that you can instead of attacking trip or grapple during and AoO.

05-17-07, 02:13 AM Not exactly... it's stating that trip and grapple are types of attacks, and so can be done with your attack of opportunity, instead of just trying to beat them with a weapon.

But more or less, yes.

05-17-07, 03:02 AM huh so does that mean you dont yourself provoke an AoO during this without feats. if so then wow and thanks ahead of time.

05-17-07, 03:12 AM I still think you provoke an AoO without feats. Though that can get a little bit silly especially if both people have combat reflexes.
