| A_Cruel_DM11-21-04, 01:45 PM | Now here's a question. To becomes an Apostle of Peace, one must have the feat "Vow of Poverty" which clearly states: "You may not use any magic item of any sort, though you can benifit from magic items used on your behalf- you can drink a potion of cure serious wounds a friend gives you, recieve a spell cast from a wand, scroll or staff, or ride on your comanions ebony fly. Yet in the Apostle of Peace description it states: "Apostles of peace forswear the use of armor, though they may wear magic items that protect them (such as a ring of protection or bracers of armor). Now is this just a typo? Or do Apostles of Peace get some sort of special clause in the Vow of Poverty rules? Are they allowed to have magic items on them? Any ideas? |
| Arthur_Pendragon11-21-04, 03:21 PM | Hmmm. . . I don't own the book myself, but from what I've heard from other people on the board (and you may want to read their responses too). My best guess, is that it is a typo on their part. I imagine they want that character to also not have items either. Man, that seems so tough on the PC's, they must live dirt poor and spread the word of peace. . . hmmmm . . . *flashes a smille in a satisfied manner that looks disturbingly evil* Well, that's why I guess I'm a demon, we don't have too worry about such matters . . . |
| Thalis11-21-04, 05:10 PM | now, does the apostle of peace need to maintain the useof vow of poverty? or can they take it and forget about it? |
| Arthur_Pendragon11-21-04, 06:20 PM | *wrinkles brow in concentration* I'd imagine if the Vow of Poverty itself was a requirment, then you still have to keep doing it to keep the prestige class. After all, the paladin for example looses much of his abilities if he fails to meet the requirments of his class (being LG). And I've seen other prestige classes which say if you no longer meet the requirments of the prestige class you cease to be able to continue in it (and probably loose many of its benefits, depending on what type of benefits they are). |
| A_Cruel_DM11-21-04, 06:29 PM | I agree. The feat itself is very specific about you having to abide by the requirements. |
| BelRex11-21-04, 06:35 PM | You and your dm can come up with your own fixes for it. I for one, am treating it as allowing you only to use items such as relics (BoED and CD types, as well as divine artifacts). I think it's a modification of the vow itself, although I don't think it needs much, so that if you fall behind in power, your DM can help you out. The shard of the sun would be pretty useful for the turning undead attempts. |
| A_Cruel_DM11-21-04, 10:18 PM | Yes, this does make sense. I was also thinking along the lines of, if a magical item is given to you as a gift, you can accept it and use it, as long as it's roleplayed out, and not just the party giving the person half the loot from every battle as a "gift". |

This is not the intent of the vow...I can see a ton of abuse with such "gifts". Just do away with the whole damn vow if you're incapable of making a character work within the restrictions of the vow. Say the vow no longer exists and is no longer a requirement for any PrC. |
| Andrew_98011-22-04, 10:15 AM | I thought it was a typo and was supposed to be vow of purity not poverty. thats how i'd play it. no need for a passifist to be poor, but probly shouldnt play with dead things |
| Callista11-22-04, 01:40 PM | Jeez... do they have errata for this stuff? They should... |
| BelRex11-24-04, 09:55 AM | No, unfortunately they don't errata everything they should. You can try customer service and see what they have to say about it. Though not all of them are familiar with the books, and you may get an odd ruling. |
| Eco-Mono11-24-04, 11:24 PM | The Sage says that the thing about Bracers was a typo, and that the Vow of Poverty must indeed be adhered to while taking this Prestige Class. Personally I think Vow of Poverty doesn't make sense for this PrC anyway. |
| Callista11-25-04, 08:06 AM | Hmm... maybe they used it as a requirement to balance the class. |
