| LeePriest07-24-04, 01:38 PM | First time posting on this board. I think i am going to try and get into playing, I haven't played in probably 7 or 8 years, since ADD was around. I want to make a character who is primarily an archer. What Class, Feats, and skills would best turn this character into an offensive machine? Any tricks or skill/feat combinations that can turn your archer up a notch? thanks for the help. |
| ieattrollsforbreakfast07-24-04, 03:03 PM | You should probably go with Fighter or Ranger, depending on if you want to have a few wilderness abilities. A really effective archer can be built early with a fighter, taking feats Point Blank Shot and Precise Shot as easly as possible. Follow with all the other archery feats such as Rapid Shot and Many Shot and you will have a very potent archer. Then, for some extra speed, you could get Mounted Archery. |

| LeePriest07-24-04, 08:51 PM | Just looked over those feats, they all sounds pretty good. If i take that fighter to a level 4 and then change his class to become another class does he keep all of the abilities and feats he has but begins to gain level one abilities of another class? Are there any magic casters in the game who use art to cast their spells. If not would it be out of the question to create one? |
| Seeker9507-24-04, 09:54 PM | Read your Player's Handbook. By the time you get to the spells section you will understand the process more fully. You will still have questions, but they will be questions whose answers you will better understand. |

When you multi-class you keep all abilities of the old class, however they may not all be usable at once. For example, arcane casters have a hard time casting in armor, monks are useless once armored, barbarien rage doesn't do anything for casters, etc. Some classes are mutually exclusive because of alignment issues (it is very rare to see a monk/barbarian), and alignment shifts can cause the loss of class abilities. |
| LeePriest07-26-04, 04:53 PM | I don't have the DMG, I wasn't aware that it had classes in it, I thought it was only for use of the DM. That character sounds like what I am looking to build. How does his magic work? My idea for the character before hearing of this Arcane Archer was to Have him be bardlike but instead of having his spells created through performance/song/music that his expression of art through painting would create magic. The character would then paint specific designs on the arrows at night time to be used the next day, somewhat like learning a spell. Then the next day the character would have a limited number of arrows that when fired out of his bow would create a magic effect. I thought the character seemed plausable because he would in no way be too powerful, just a different way of doing things. However maybe I should stick to a class that already exists such as this arcane archer. Any thoughts??? |
| Escef07-27-04, 03:28 AM | The Arcane Archer is also in the SRD (sytem reference document, it's the part of the game WotC "gives" away with the Open Game License). You'll find a link in Seeker95's signature. You can also find it by poking around on WotC's webspace. Technically, prestige classes are as much player material as they are DM material, however, the DM is encouraged to make taking a prestige class something that must be cleared by him. |
