| Pippa02-06-05, 05:20 PM | It's been almost a year since I first experienced the sweet, sweet pleasure of playing D&D; now my fellow players and I write stories, biographies, poems, parodies on each other's stories, we produce loads and loads of drawings varying from costume-design and cartoons to epic scenes and eroticism (systematically loosing ourselves in nudity-pictures; we even try to overtrump each other by showing as many nipples and such as possible without being raunchy), and while D&D-slang has worked itself a way up into our every-day's conversations, most of us carry dice along in their rucksacks, rolling a die from time to time just for the sake of it - or perhaps to train them; either reason to toy with the shiny little trinkets seems to please us. We frequently "attack" each other - everybody knows at least a great deal of his stats by hard - the party's elven ranger even has her customized, made-to-measure statistical sheets filed neatly in a bundle adorned with her portrait - and I myself got more often sneakattacked out of the game than in it. We even chalenge each other to a duel now and then, and my DM-boyfriend and I tell each other bed-time stories. I dream almost every night of villains and magical beasts and most of my dreams in some way have something to do with magic and spells. (I'm playing a gnome-girl sorcerer.) I believe I can say with my hand on my heart that our D&D-characters have become some kind of alter-ego's by now. My question to you is simple: are we sane? Is this still healthy? I'm well aware of the possibility that some of you find all this peanuts, but before you tell us all about your D&D-dedicated lifes, consider this: don't give us to many ideas, we're supposed to have a life outside Faerūn as well, and we like to keep up appearances. |
| BeyondFated02-06-05, 05:44 PM | That's all you guys do? Oh come on, I had my face surgically altered to look like my half dragon/half Illithid Chaotic Good Fighter12/Rouoge/13/Wizard10/Assassain7/Diety12!* And that was three years ago! Yer a bunch of lightwieghts if ya ask me! *(I didn't really, too expensive... but one day...) |
| Escef02-06-05, 06:00 PM | My question to you is simple: are we sane? Is this still healthy? Insanity is not a disease, it is a personality trait. As for it being healthy or not, insanity can be good for you if you know how to do it properly, which most people don't. (Heck, I rarely manage to pull it off, it's a delicate balance.) If it hasn't damaged you socially or financially, hasn't caused you to deal harm to yourself or another, and you know where the fantasy stops and reality begins than you're fine. |
| TheUnknownZombie02-06-05, 06:45 PM | Insanity is a symptom of a disease, rather than a disease in itself. My guess is you're diseased up to the eyeballs. Have you noticed any other symptoms? Such as coughing, sneezing, rashes, oozing from orifices, loss of vision or limbs, low energy, extreme body odour, uncontrolled twitching, low blood sugar, little control over basic bodily functions, hairy/itchy palms, rotting flesh, swollen glands, hydrophobia, frothing at the mouth, flaking of the skin, loss of hair, cravings for strange foods, stomach cramps, high energy, dissolving of the kidneys, strange hair growth, calcification of the liver, invisibility, high blood sugar, sudden fitting, explosive diarrhoea, violent outbursts, melting teeth, desire to roleplay, burning whilst urinating or general achiness? If any of you display at least two of these symptoms, then seek help. And antibiotics. |
| Neely02-07-05, 08:36 AM | "Com'on Pippa, lets see the docter for your medications." *takes Pippa by the arm and walks off* "No, Pippa, that's not the docter, that's a dire camel!" |
| Multani02-08-05, 12:21 AM | WHO'S INSANE?! ARE YOU THREATENING ME!!! ILL KILL YA!! I--*ehem* :twitch: :shifty: Insanity is your freind..belive in it..cherish it..and remember to wash the blood from your hands after a killing spree. | Escef02-08-05, 01:07 AM | WHO'S INSANE?! ARE YOU THREATENING ME!!! ILL KILL YA!! I--*ehem* I'll kill you! I'll kill all of you! Especially those of you in the jury! :evillaugh |
| Knight_of_spades02-08-05, 02:49 AM | My question to you is simple: are we sane? Is this still healthy? Yes, as long as you are able to question your own sanity you are most likely healty. If you feel like it tone it down a notc, don't let a game come in the way of work, school and homework. |

| CzarGarrett02-08-05, 10:00 AM | It could be worse, it could be drugs. |
| Draco Strang02-08-05, 10:14 AM | It could be worse, it could be drugs. Or being one of the guys that gives D&D players wedgies in the cafeteria. |
| Nived02-08-05, 11:18 AM | Actully 'sane' and 'insane' are legal terms not psychologial ones. Insane meaning "The inability to distinguish right from wrong" or "the being unable to take any other course of action due to an outside force". This is why the twinkie defense worked. From what I see nothing you mentioned really fits into the legal deffinition of 'insane' so yes... we are sane. This however doesn't mean that we are not crazy. |
| Ogre4Hire02-08-05, 12:00 PM | As long as you're having fun, you're fine. Well, unless you're putting your Aunt Flo's poodle in the microwave. That would be mean. But then again, I never liked Aunt Flo. So I guess it's a good thing she doesn't have a poodle. |
| Silver_FireStar02-08-05, 03:37 PM | Yes, you are insane. But who cares, sounds like fun, roll with it. |
| Raziel_Brokodar02-08-05, 08:54 PM | hmmm..... simple solution..... START PLAYING AGAIN!!!!!! |
| Half-Fiend Monkey02-08-05, 10:38 PM | I wouldn't be asking whether or not playing d&d is healthy as we all know it dosen't really matter. The true question is whever sitting in front of a computer asking other people if you are sane is healthy. |

| Pippa02-10-05, 05:11 PM | Actually, some of these symptoms you describe look alarmingly familiar to me, TheUnknownZombie. But since I 'm presently under medical treatment for at least one of them, I guess it could be worse. I could have myself plastically altered for instance. (Or it could be drugs, yes. Others than D&D.) Then on the other hand, things do get in the way of school from time to time; yet again, since I turned a storyboarding-exercise (animated film school student) about a road-side restaurant into one about an inn crowded with orcs and elves and such (featuring our D&D-characters!), I hope that's balanced. And Yes, I've asked myself whether asking people on the net if I'm sane is healthy. Especially when I checked for posts for the millionest time, like a little girl checking the lawn on Easter Sunday. Thank you all for your replies; especially you, Neely, for illustrating my point so well. |

| 10foot02-10-05, 10:56 PM | As long as you can still work, eat, and sleep. You have a lover who tells you bedtime stories - not a lot of people get that. I do this for my woman and I write poetry. I work, eat and sleep( usually). My neighbors are probably a little creeped out when they hear dialogue though( "why did you cut off his head, Kelvin? He's a cyclops - they don't do much BUT eyeball you."). Roleplaying is healthy. Eating your cat and wearing the fur may not be. SOME people get arrested for that( not all). Variety is the spice of life. :D |
| green_yawgmoth02-11-05, 01:04 AM | I think if you have to ask if you're sane, the answer is "no". :P http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v91/yawgmoth/kittyjig.gif |
