ARGH! It's happened again! [Archive] - Wizards Community

11-02-04, 02:39 PM Once again this board have been overrun by Vow of Poverty questions.

When the screen shows 17 threads, fully 8 of them - including two of the stickies are devoted to VOP.

This board becomes redundant to the point of uselessness because this one rule set is allowed to proliferate needlessly.

I've made my opinion clear before, I've voted on the matter, and still I think another solution needs to be made.

Can their not be one Vow of Poverty Questions thread? Only two threads are needed to cover this rule, the existing 'I Hate VOP' and a 'VOP Questions and Advice' thread. Sticky them both for all I care.

Let's do something about it and make this particular board interesting again.

Although, for what it's worth, I agree that the debate is mostly inane and entirely played out at this point.

Today there are (including this thread) nine out of seventeen dedicated to the munchkin fappy meal that is the Vow of Poverty.

As an innovative rule set I love the Vow of Poverty. It's different, it's fringe, and it's bold. I think it's an interesting direction for game designers to have visited. As a whole I hate it however because it brings out the worst in players.

Vow of Poverty means you're poor, a squeegie kid, a derilict, a bum. Who would want to roleplay this regretable situation during game time? Such is the doom that befalls us in the real world with lay-offs, downsizing, and morgage payments in arrears. No one elects to be impoverished. To think so is to make light of the crushing poverty that afflicts too many third world nations. The Vow of Poverty is a romantic notion at best with no basis in the real world. Even medievil and oriental monks - who foreswear ownership - live a life that is far from being poverty stricken.

Poverty-lovers also bring down the property value of any adventuring party. They also smell funny, like a cheap cheese.

"It's not existent in reality" doesn't count in DnD.

And if you are so keen on numbers, try counting sneak attack threads.
