Hi, I'm having some trouble with understanding armor class and thaco in the version 1 set of rules. Could someone please explain this to me? Thanks a lot. :)

You'll want to take this over to the Out of Print (http://www.rpgnow.com/product_info.php?products_id=1631&) boards.
A lot of folks here have never even heard of THAC0. Too young!

If you're playing AD&D, then:

your THAC 0 minus the targets Armour Class is what you need to roll equal or better.

Same mechanic as today, if you do the math, just called something else.

As absolute terms, here is what they are:

Armor Class - A numerical rating of how easy you are to hit. The higher the number, the easier you are to hit... therefore, lower is better.

THAC0 - Acronym for "to hit armor class 0." It is the number you need to roll on a twenty-sided die to score a hit on something with AC 0.
