I'm thinking about getting the Arms and Equipment Guide when I make a trip to Seoul in a couple of weeks but I notice that the volume on sale in the game store is v3.0. I'm playing v3.5 but is it safe to assume that I won't have any problems using this book in my game? A pound of wheat is a pound of wheat in any version of D&D but I wonder about armour and so on.

Approximately 85% of the content in Arms and Equipment 3.0 is compatable w/ V 3.5 without any modifications. IMHO if you can get it for 15% off cover price (surprisingly easy to do) and you like the theme of the book (Arms and Equipment) then go for it.

I have it, I dont use it much in my game, but it is interesting reading.

Thanks for the information. What kind of things are not compatible with 3.5?

Some references to skills and feats. A few of the references to certain spells. However, even in this case, you can use the 3.5 versions nicely. The only references that won't exist in 3.5 are those to Feats and Skills that were folded into one.

I would say that 95% of the A&EG is usable in 3.5 with no adjustments. 4% with minor adjustments. 1% unusable, but not desired to begin with.

All of this ignores the flat out over-powered or under-powered nature of almost half of the material. Examine each item carefully. If it sounds too good to be true, it is. There are lots of high-powered items that would make even the Forgotten Realms seem reasonable. And there are a lot of items that make a bathroom-in-the-dungeon schedule seem more useful.

I'm mostly interested in trading goods, caravan rules, and mundane adventuring items so I think the book will be fine for me. I've never been very interested in high power items so I think I'm safe. Still, thanks for the warning about those things.

If that is what you are after Masuro, I think you will be reasonably happy with your purchase. Do shop around though and find yourself a good deal, no sense paying full retail for old material.

Good luck :)

You might want to be careful with the monsters within, because they are 3.0. You might have to re-calculate feats and such.

Seeker: what exctly are you referring to that is that overpowered in A&EG? Are you making reference to the fact that a 5th level character can afford to buy a Soarwhale, a monster with a fairly high CR? Or is it something I'm missing?

At the same time, there are a few magic items that are over-priced as well. In this case, the guidelines were followed without regard for actual (minimial) benefit.

The Soarwhale example is also representative of the wide fluctuation in price-to-balance.

Magic items are never for sale in my campaign so no worries there. :)

Thanks for the heads-up, seeker. I'll keep that in mind, as I'm worse than usualy about checking if the price really matches the guidelines or not. Which is pretty important, because I do allow the buying and selling of magic items.
