| blood_of_the_ancient04-26-07, 04:05 PM | Hello, I am Tatsel Ganav! A powerful necromancer of my world and the ruler of an undead city-nation. I have seen the recent trend of "Ask so-and-so" threads that have popped up, started by Shadow the Dragon, and I thought, "Hey? Why not me?" I started putting the idea together, and decided I would bring along the rest of the family for commentary! My daughter, Avia... Hi, I'm Avia Ganav-Grange, my dad wants me along for commentary. I... Heh heh, I don't know what to say. Dad? Ah, whatever the case, I will answer question on any topic to the best of my capability. And, while I'm at it, other members of my family might pitch in if they feel the need. I don't want this intro going on too much. Come on, any question will do. |

| blood_of_the_ancient04-26-07, 05:11 PM | My favorite type of zombie? Oh, that depends what you mean by type. I generally prefer skellies, but you do say zombie, so what-ho! When making a zombie, you're not looking for something quick, you're looking for something big, strong, and hard to rip apart. I'd say a Hulking Corpse is my favorite zombie-like monster, you can find it in Libris Mortis. But if you mean favorite zombie... well... Hill giants are good. Dragons are good, too. But I think your best bet for zombies is going to be one of those infectious Resident Evil types, like the things from Expedition to Castle Ravenloft. They're not too strong, so easy to make a lot of, and they make more themselves. Drop a few in a village, no more village a while later. They're just fun. |
| RPGfan04-26-07, 09:16 PM | Speaking of Ravenloft, I'm a Sorcerer from that place. Recently, I learned Command Undead (a useful deviation from my standard blasting spells) and have had quite a good deal of fun turning powerful undead against each other mid-battle. Unfortunately, the Paladin in my group has insisted that we slay all the undead I've taken control of after the battle is over, regardless of how close we are to another fight, how far we are from civilization, or how useful the undead is. My protests often fall flat against his firm belief that controlling undead is like playing with fire while sleepy and blindfolded. I can't get rid of him because the only other people willing to adventure with me either support his decisions or aren't powerful enough to help me overcome the Paladin and said supporters. Even if the Paladin and all of the supporters "mysteriously dissapeared", I'd be left with too few people to survive Ravenloft. Last, but not least, I don't even want to hurt the guy. Aside from the "kill all the undead" problem, I like him. He's nice, funny, and has saved my hide at least a dozen times. Any idea on how I can convince him that Command Undead is "poetic justice" and not "taking too big a risk"? |

| blood_of_the_ancient04-26-07, 11:08 PM | @RPGfan: Hmm... Tricky problem. You need to explain to him the nature of your magic. Explain that once the undead are around, they don't bring any more negative energy to the world by being here, and your magic controls them utterly. You can use these undead to kill other undead, and other, far nastier things. He needs to understand that this spell is one of your most potent tools for combating undead, and that you have complete control over it. You might need to compromise with him - accept a time limit of a day less than the duration of your spell perhaps, before the controlled undead are destroyed, and ensure that you do something extra for him. Maybe design a couple spells, custom made, just for him? Or agree to some especially charitable acts? I created one spell called Heavened, an opposing force to Unheavened. Heavened Abjuration [Good] Level: Sor/Wis 2 Components: V. S Casting Time: 1 standard action Range: Touch Target: One creature Duration: 10 minutes/level Saving Throw: Will negates (harmless) Spell Resistance: Yes (harmless) The caster grants one creature a +4 sacred bonus on saving throws made against any spell or spell-like effect from an evil outsider. This protection manifests as a white and blue nimbus of energy visible around the subject. All fiendish beings can identify a heavened subject on sight. Why do you feel the need to create another one of these pointless threads that adds nothing useful to the boards? Oh, well, that's all a matter of opinion, eh? I find them quite useful. There are sometimes honest questions that can truly be helpful, and other times they are simply quite funny. I find a large majority of threads on these boards could be considered "useless" by some, and are indeed thought of as such by many. But alas, I do not deem them so. Back to the point, obviously, you do deem them useless, so I'll go with a bit of reasoning here. I was bored, and thought I could be good at this. So I decided to give it a whirl, see how it goes, yes? From the success of other advice column threads, they are obviously well-liked to some. Why would anyone want advice from you? I have no idea, it's never stopped me on anything else. Heh, yep. Oh, and my father forgot an important bit, Bobo. Why do you think these advice column threads are useless? |
| Waterhammer04-26-07, 11:21 PM | Yup. Advice is only useful, if it agrees with what you wanted to do in the first place. :D |
