| Issmortor02-05-05, 04:56 PM | im about to start a campaign that starts at level 3 and im getting confused as to how to buy the equiptment and calculate all the stats for everything, so i come to you guys for help.(its alot easier to start with a lvl1 character and do things one at a time, IMO, but with a lvl 3...) if i have: Composite Longbow[str4] +1 (str4 is the extra i paid for the ability to use my STR mod to attacks, or does that go to damage?) with Weapon Finesse(Composite Longbow), and he is proficient with Comp. Longbow he also has STR 18 and DEX 19 and BAB 3 i think this would make ATT +5 and DMG 1d6+6, but trying to put together all the different modifications confuse me, so its probly wrong. so if anyone can fix it and tell me what i did wrong, as well as help me be able to figure such things out in the future, that help would be much appreciated thanks |

Also, you can't use weapon finesse with a composite longbow. Weapon finesse is for melee weapons only, since as a ranged weapon it already uses Dex mod for attacking anyway. So, for a composite longbow with a +4 Str bonus and +1 enhancement, you will have: +8 Attack (+3 BAB, +4 Dex, +1 magic) 1d8+5 damage (1d8 is base damage of longbow, +4 Str, +1 magic) |

Longbow? thanks |

| Issmortor02-05-05, 08:09 PM | and along with the first post i meant to add that if i had a ChainShirt +1, and a Small Steel Shield +1, with the +4dex bonus, would that make my AC=20? i would use this while using my Masterwork Longsword: +5 to attack (+ 1masterwork, +4 str) 1d8+4 damage (str) ^^^is that right too? thanks |

Alrighty - the chain shirt allows up to a +4 dex mod, so you can take your whole thing. The chain shirt also gives a +4 armor bonus, and making it +1 increases that to +5. The Small Steel Shield (I assume you mean light steel shield) grants you a +1 sheild bonus to AC, and the +1 makes that a +2. Adding those to the base of 10 you have: 10 (base) 4 (dex) 5 (armor) 2 (shield) for a total of 21. Your flatfooted AC would be your AC without your Dex mod, or 17; your touch AC would be your AC without any armor or shield bonuses, or 14. All very good numbers. i would use this while using my Masterwork Longsword: +5 to attack (+ 1masterwork, +4 str) 1d8+4 damage (str) ^^^is that right too? thanks That's correct - but don't forget that you can also add your BAB to the attack, so you'd actually attack at +8 - the 5 you outlined above plus your +3 BAB. |

Steel Shield = +2 AC(+1 Shield; +1 magic) +4 Dex AC= 21 BAB +3; +1MW; +4 Str = +8 Longsword(MW) attack and 1d8+4 damage |
