Attention New Posters! April Fool's Day Pranks are Coming! [Archive] - Wizards Community

03-30-05, 02:32 PM Attention all new posters (those that have been on the boards for less than a year):

Every year, the Boards staff here like to mess with us for an April Fool's day prank. Year before last they changed all of the avatars to My Little Pony pictures. Last year, the big thing was the censor was reprogrammed to make everybody talk like Mr. T.

It will happen again this year, in a few day's time.

If you are easily offended, are incapable of understanding that a group prank is not a personal attack, or lack the ability to laugh at yourself, then please, DO NOT LOG ONTO THE BOARDS ON APRIL FIRST! Read a book, go outside, talk with loved ones, anything, but don't come here.

The rest of us enjoy the pranks, and look forward to them all year long. If you do not think you will like being messed with, then don't come to the boards until its all over. If you do, and you start a thread to complain about it, you will be openly laughed at for not being able to take a joke, likely to your face.

Any "damage" done to any poster, the boards, or threads, is temporary only, and everything will be back to normal when its all over with. So, sit back and enjoy the fun!

We need to purge the boards of a few members who take themselves a little too seriously.

Note: I am confident there will be many on these boards who feel that I fall into this same category. I disagree. I do not take myself all that seriously. I do, however, take the rules of the Boards and the CoC seriously.

I couldn't imagine anyone getting angered over something as petty as the pranks you mentioned. Especially in something noone has paid to use and doesn't own.

Last year was my first April Fools experience with the WOTC boards. I wasn't expecting it at all, and was completely caught off guard. It took me a bit before I figured out what was going on and why (I had forgotten it was April 1st).

To be honest, I think things like that are funnier when you don't expect it... which I didn't. Putting out warnings like this will ruin the suprise for people, which might lessen the experience.

Although I do understand the reason for posting the warning.

I ask you, what harm is there in telling people that will just get ticked off and cause trouble to just not show up? Its not like I'm telling people what will happen, just that something will happen.

But then again, I don't find laughing at the misery of others to be enjoyable.
People whine for weeks afterwards because of this, and its just stupid. But seriously man, relax. The GOOD newbies are the ones that are reading this thread. The whiney ones that will get all indignent about it won't bother, and they'll whine and throw their little temper tantrums anyway, and you can just point them back here with a "Well, he told you it was going to happen!".

This is supposed to be a fun event. If people are not going to have fun with it, then they shouldn't be here.

Frankly, I think there'd be an even bigger outrage if there wasn't a 4/1 prank on the boards.

That's it! The perfect 4/1 prank...nothing happens at all. :D

Then again, I'm also of the opinion that people who get so worked up over any April Fool's gag, let alone one that has no impact in the real world, isn't physically damaging, and isn't targeting them specifically, need to take a step back, bend over, and let the oak return to the woods.
