Do all creatures and objects that have alignments also have auras that are detectable by a Detect Evil (or Good, Chaotic, etc.) spell? I'm trying to find out if characters can always sniff out an ordinary evil character just by casting a spell. Obviously, the spell should point out creatures specified on the table accompanying the Detect Evil spell, but is it limited to that?

All aligned creatures have auras, so yes, a 1st level human with a LE alignment will detect as faintly evil (as per the table). So will a 10th level human.

Clerics and Paladins have stronger auras, as noted in their class descriptions.

Objects may have evil or good auras, but that is rare.

Cheers!

I played in a game where the character's faith made their aura stronger. I had a Sorcerer dedicated to Bocob that we ruled had a stronger aura than the Fighter/Cleric traveling with him. We made jokes from time to time that if anyone bothered casting "Detect Good" then our party would just be a great big shining beacon for anyone to see for a hundred miles in any direction. (Sorcerer of Bocob, Cleric/Fighter of Pelor, and a Rogue dedicated to Sun(SP?) [FR]). Made things rather fun for us I think!
