Anon_Charlie 09-15-07, 10:57 PM	Im a DM from Victoria, Australia and was wondeng how many Aussie DnD gamers were out there. It seems that Australian gamers are find to find, either the are hidden in the woodwork or there isnt many of them. If your an Australian Gamer post and discuss the limitations, or if you feel there is no limitations to be a gamer in Oz. It seems majority of DnD resources and players are US based. It is time the Aussie gamers rally and unite! Cheers anon
Noon 09-16-07, 04:21 AM	Well, I'm from Melbourne. They are out there - I was once enquiring about a room at a library to game in, and the guy I talked to was a gamer. Also awhile back the comedians in Tripod did a couple of skits in a comedy show (forget the name) that were roleplaying jokes. And down the road at a collectable card shop there are some people there who game (haven't gotten anything together at the mo) It's out there - I think we just need games which aren't just about being social get togethers. But that's a personal opinion.
justinthebig 09-16-07, 08:19 AM	Hail Fellow Aussie Gamers, I am from Brisbane and I game. I am an avid D&D fan and have been since my first experience with the red box set (basic) back in high school. I too have found it hard to find an active population of D&D gamers and I have lived in 2 of our 7 states. That said, I have never had an issue finding a game or someone to game with. It seems to me that most Australians are a very commercial and orthodox society in that if something has nothing to do with footy, cars or fishing, it is an unworthy endeavour. Australians by nature are a segregated and cynical bunch! It does seem to me that it has changed for the better in the last few years and that things are finally starting to grow dynamically and go forward in leaps and bounds. It is a brave new world. I attended a convention here in Brisbane a couple of weeks ago late in August and the turnout, although it was no GenCon, was great. The camaraderie between gamers was awesome and the events were fun and well run. It was sponsored by WOTC I believe and a local games shop was a sponsor and host. Said gaming shop has a great gamer friendly environment and plenty of space for folk to meet and play. In short Brisbane has a great gaming community that seems to get better each year. Outside of Brisbane I can't say for certain, but I'd like to think it is the same in other states. Aussie Gamers Unite! I'm all for it! Spring Revel Down Under is on in early October in Cairns and GenCon Oz is here for the first time next year! The future looks bright ahead. So are there any Melbourne Cons that happen down south? I'd be keen on attending one and checking out MilSims while I'm there. Justin Webb
Antimyth 09-16-07, 12:08 PM	Yeah I'm from Melbourne and game weekly, currently goin through Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil which is really fun but I get the feeling is gonna go forever. We have a group of 5 dedicated players and a couple of others who drop in and out, these people are all my close relatives/friends. I tried to join other DnD groups through uni but it was a bit weird and its hard to find a group that plays the way you like.

I've been looking for a group to join as a player for a while but it seems that no one is taking on players. The groups themselves that advertise (clubs and so forth) are few and far between for RPing. Incidentally, are there any spaces for an experienced player and occasional DM in the SE of Melb? :) @justinthebig: There's a couple of big cons that happen earlier in the year. Arcanacon happens around Australia Day while Conquest runs over Easter. Both cons have large wargaming communities as well as RP earlier in the days. Other than that, there's Gencon coming to Brisbane next year.
JPDeed 09-16-07, 11:24 PM	I'm from Sydney - and campaigns can be found all centred on gaming shops like Tin Soldier etc. Universities have contacts for games. Just recently my closest shop has closed (in Bondi - he said kids would play warhammer in there all day but never buy a damn thing), but since the combined ranks of my players have bought every book under the sun, it doesnt really matter. As i get older, i get much pickier about who i let into the circle. Our group is relaxed, we have a few beers while playing, and has been going on since 2002. Most other campaigns i have been involved with have lasted less than 6 months. Point is - yeah, they are out there, you just have to find the hotspots, get to know the people before joining in, and just be yourself i guess.
DragonSamurai 09-16-07, 11:40 PM	Hi fellow Aussie gamers. I live in Tasmania and have been playing regularily since the mid eighties. Our gaming group has been together since highschool so I can't really comment on the abundance or lack of gamers here. The big limatation here is the availability of books. We have one store in the south of the state and it doesn't stock much D&D (just core mostly). If it wasn't for the internet we'd be very limited in book choices.
DarkDM 09-17-07, 12:47 AM	Currently from Brisbane. Discovered D&D in Melbourne in 1980/1 at school. Spent long time in the UK, got back into the game (2E/3E) after a small hiatus. Now in Brisbane, from what I have seen there is quite a strong RPG community of both players and published writers here. It should be said also that Brisbane will host the Australian version of Gencon next year, looking forward to this indeed. Cheers DDM:devil:
1337Ninja 09-17-07, 04:51 AM	Blue Mountains, I play in Penrith. No real probs for me, because I go to the 'nerd school', so I quickly found some people to play with, and my school is right near a gaming shop with a large collection of books.
angryman 09-17-07, 05:54 AM	Pretty much every university has a thriving D&D/roleplaying club. I DM with a group of 5-6 friends at the moment, so I hardly feel like it's hard to get a game in. I'm in Melbourne, btw.
