The favorite fantasy book thread (http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=910707) reminded me of avatar games. I was curious who out there has played them, and their experiences.

For those who *don't* know, an avatar game is a game where you play yourself. This usually brings up issues of stat generation, abilities, and alignments. How have those who have played Avatar games dealt with the issues?

Since I asked, I'll start:

My first Avatar game was a World of Darkness game. Basically, we found out the Camarilla fan club was a front for vampires. In the process, we became supernatural creatures ourselves.

What we did to get around the issue of stats was that the group decided the individuals stats based on what the book said a given stat was supposed to do and what we could accomplish in RL. The GM gave us bonus points on our skills to mimic our RL skills, and then for everything else, we built to what we wanted to become.

I recently ran a D&D avatar game. The premise was that a week before we died, a god-like being came to us individually and told us that we were going to die. He couldn't stop it, but he had recieved permisson from <insert diety here> that he could take our souls and give us a new mortal life elsewhere if we were willing.

In addition, we would be given new bodies, so I gave a stat spread so people could make whatever stat and race combination they wanted. And everyone would be trained in whatever class we were interested in. In exchange, we had to make sure that reality wasn't destroyed by entropomancers. (I took the prestige class from the Complete Divine and tweaked it.)

For alignment, we kinda glossed over it, and I made sure that alignment only came up in obvious extreme circumstances, and it was never an issue for the players only the NPCs.

So anyone out there want to share their experiences for an avatar game?
