So our group is getting into the higher level ranges... We just broke 12 last night. Our DM has a tendency to throw lots of Neg Levels at people who get into that realm. Any suggestions on templates or classes that could help avoid neg level drainage???

Thanks!

Death Ward
Necromancy
Level: Clr 4, Death 4, Drd 5, Pal 4
Components: V, S, DF
Casting Time: 1 standard action
Range: Touch
Target: Living creature touched
Duration: 1 min./level
Saving Throw: Will negates (harmless)
Spell Resistance: Yes (harmless)

The subject is immune to all death spells, magical death effects, energy drain, and any negative energy effects.

This spell doesn’t remove negative levels that the subject has already gained, nor does it affect the saving throw necessary 24 hours after gaining a negative level.

Death ward does not protect against other sorts of attacks even if those attacks might be lethal.

Hope it helps!! :D

fight fire w/ fire:
necropolitan. big fan. immune to pretty much everything, it's just the social tip that's problematic to which Disguise Undead or Disguise Self remedy fairly easilly and are lower lvl slots than Death Ward.
typically, we push for Disguise ranks and a Hat of Disguise, try not to eat ppl, and other dead-ish behavior. when in rome...

there are feats that raise Fort saves vs. energy drain and the like. not my fav as they are too specific, but you never know. i'd prefer the Great Fort blanket policy even if it's 2 points lower, more comprehensive. look at your vampire hunting and so forth as an insurance policy i guess

Ectoplasmic Feedback (armor ability) will ward off incorporeal types real quick when they learn to hit you hurts them
good old Turn/Rebuke. though i prefer Rebuke as they can only stand there cowering while PCs beat the Hell out of them. turn typically makes them flee, then you gotta' find them

... And there's a feat in Libris Mortis. Two feats actually. If I remember correctly they went like this:

#1 was called "lasting life". It didn't have prerequisits, it gave you a +4 bonus on saves made to avoid loosing a level after 24 hrs, and it delayed the aquirement of the negative level by a number of minutes equal to 1 + your Con modifier.

#2 was called "enduring life". It had the "lasting life" and "endurance" feats as prerequisites, and it gave you the opportunity to make a new saving throw to remove the negative level every minute.

Disclaimer: I am not very clear on the specifics (I don't have the book with me right now) but you can consider this a pointer, and alter them if that suits you. If you really want to know the proper rules, get your hands on a Libris Mortis. (If you're anywhere near as crazy as me about undead, it's worth it  ).

Good luck!

I don't recall seeing one that protects against negative level stuff - and it's not in the SRD.

Perfect! Thank you ma'am!

Fixed. And no problem. :D

Also, since death ward doesnt last all day and you can therefore be ambushed before you have it up, I also recommend the death ward enchantment on your armor. That only absorbs 1 death effect but it will keep you safe long enough to cast death ward. And remember, you can get it on more than 1 piece of armor too. My cleric ran with it on his body armor and his shield. Helmets would probably work too.

Get blood drained by a vampire. Also DMs gonna have a heck of a time with that.

Champions of Valor (a FR supplement) has a Paladin substitution level for Kelemvor Paladins that wards death effects.
