Ok, I'm hoping to play an awakened creature in my next game(subject to DM's approval) so I'm wondering where I might find what I need to create such a character. I'm hoping I can get an answer to this or maybe it's in one of the Monster Manuals and I just missed it, if so I'm sorry. I wasn't sure where to put this(Race or Monsters subforum) so I posted here.

I believe the book Savage Species covers the topic. I'm AFB right now though, so someone else will need to help you with the specifics.

BTW: What animal were you thinking of being?

generally speaking?

Not sure how Savage Species suggests it, but the first thing to do would be to figure out what the racial adjustments would be. The physical ones would be simple enough, as would the wisdom. Intellegence is 3d6 from awaken, and charisma is improved by 1d3, so I would set the int mod to +0 and the charisma mod to +2 ontop of whatever the animal would normally have.

also, in addition to the normal hit die the animal would have from it's race, it gets two more animal hit die from the spell.

at this point you should be looking at the raw adjustments based off race, a number of racial hit die, a few stat mods, maybe one or two racial abilities, and all that.

Now you need to figure out the LA. And thats about where I can stop giving advice. I think most animals would be in the +0 or +1 range, mostly because the lycanthrope template is +2 in addition to the animal hit dice, and gives more goodies on top of the benefits from the hit die.

Hope that helps.

PS: what animal were you thinking of? My group nixed the idea of a psionic kitty, mostly because the idea annoyed them.

Somehow, the concept cracks me up, especially when someone in the CO boards suggested giving them a glamered mithral fullplate and making it look like a pink sweater...:D

I think that if you could somehow raise its int to 3 or more, a wolf has a LA of +2 as per Unapproachable East. Not sure about other monsters though.

1. Pick an animal that has existing stats.

2. Apply the awaken spell mechanics. add 3d6 Intelligence
add 1d3 Charisma
add 2 HD

3. Change type to magical beast (augmented animal).

4. Play.

Seek, I think they might also want an LA.

LA would seriously depend on the animal. Wolves have improved trip for free, and decent ability scores, probably +1. Bears, tigers, lions, etc. at least +2 (great ability scores, special attacks, natural armor). Birds, bats, rats, rabbits, or any other such creature would probably be +1, simply because of their movement modes and size modifiers.

It does. You've all been very helpful.
I'm hoping to play a lion or tiger like creature like Aslan(Narnia) or Red XIII(Final Fantasy VII).

Ooooh, I like the idea of the animals you'd like to play.

I can't give any more advice than the other people have given, but I'd suggest playing something that doesn't wear armor or need to wave their hands about... (Monk, bard[?])

Or barbarian...
