| SupercrazyDM09-29-07, 01:57 PM | A lot of people like reading fantasy books and movies soooooooooooo write down what YOU think certain characters stats and classes should be. Could someone who has read the Rangers Apprentice Series try to make Will plz? |
| Guardian109-29-07, 03:48 PM | Personally I think Herald Alberich, from the Heralds of Valdemar books by Mercedes Lackey would have 12 levels in Paladin. This is just going off of his personality, but he does have the necessary character traits. As for stats: Str: 16 (He's a soldier by trade and serves as Weaponsmaster to his king). Dex: 15 (see above). Con: 16 (see above). Int: 13 (smart enough to know a good idea when he hears one, but has trouble formulating non-military plans). Wis: 16 (plenty of common sense, always important for a soldier). Cha: 17 (Highly respected, despite his national background). |

None of this “Oh he’s only sixth level” stuff makes sense to me. That being said, I also don’t agree that he’s a 25th level army-killer. So, I originally just wanted to do Scout/Human Paragon (Human Paragon to me=Dúnadain and he is the Dúnadain). But, in that build, he didn’t have enough feats to accurately portray him, so reluctantly I threw in the gestalt levels. I didn’t want him to be Epic and to cover the feats he needed (which I think he has) he would have had to have been Epic. As to houserules, I usually play VP/WP, and because I started with RCR Star Wars, I just think it’s a better system. And since heroes in Middle Earth don’t tend to wear armor, I gave him a class defense bonus = to his Base Attack Bonus. |

And since heroes in Middle Earth don’t tend to wear armor, I gave him a class defense bonus = to his Base Attack Bonus. The book version of Aragorn on the other hand, has more than a few levels of Paladin. The book Return of the King mentions a prophecy about Gondor's king that contains the lines "The hands of the king are the hands of a healer." That screams Lay on Hands to me. There's also a scene in a hospital tent after Sauron is destroyed where Aragorn is going around healing the wounded just by laying his hands on the wound. The book version of Sauron definitely has levels in Paladin....But's that's just my opinion. :P |
| AmericanYeti09-30-07, 10:01 AM | I most certainly agree with that, but there's not enough evidence of a fighting style (which I like to capture) in most books, especially those written by Tolkien. So, I chose to go with the movie versions. |

See example one, when he kills a Mumakil+crew in one fell swoop. Also, his movie inspiration was Errol Flynn’s Robin Hood, who is the epitome of swashbuckler. For Treetop Archer, I used the Cragtop Archer Prestige Class from Races of Stone and just changed the Mountain Warrior requirement to Woodland Archer. I had been looking for a class to duplicate some of his ridiculous shots and this was it. As a full-round action, Legolas can hit a target as far away as 2475 feet with no penalty for range, provided he can see it and he has at least forty feet above him. Holy crap. |

An “urban” Barbarian to be sure, but he’s prone to rage when he fights. He enjoys it, but he’ll make reckless decisions in the heat of battle. Watch the Two Towers again. When Helm’s Deep’s Wall is destroyed, Aragorn is left stunned for a second in front of the charging Uruk-Hai. Gimli leaps down from a twenty-foot high wall onto a mass of armored pikemen and starts hacking away. That’s Rage for you. I also ruled that armor provides Damage Reduction = to its armor bonus. That's where Gimli's DR 9/- comes from. |

This is how I decided to represent that. This Boromir can weather a hail of arrows from all but the most capable archers, while cutting down foes left and right. I chose Purple Dragon Knight to represent his excellent leadership skills, just because I thought it fit and Knight 17 abilities don’t quite cut it. |
