Try to keep it as real as posible.

One of the groups I used to game with was this married couple who had some ....issues. The husband was the DM, and he owned an energetic young dog. During one session said dog nipped him playfully cause he wasn't getting any attention, and the DM promptly started beating him while screaming profanities. We all made excuses to go home and kinda drifted apart after that.....

Lol.

I had the same thing happen to me once, 'cept my fried got a call from his girlfriend and they got mad and started screaming at each other.

More funny than awkward though.

I don't understand why people get into relationships that consist primarily of screaming. I have never raised my voice to a significant other, nor been on the recieving end of such.

My most awkward gaming moment was deliberate. One of my players wanted to do the nasty with a barmaid, and I had clearly said that if there was to be sex in game, it was going to be LARPed on the table. So I took my pants off and asked him whether he wanted to be on the top or bottom.

None of my players have suggested in-game sex ever since...

Think he would have reacted differently if you were a female DM? (I'd assume he'd have said yes if you were, ignore if I'm wrong)

My friend brought his new woman over to try gaming with our regular mixed-gender crew, and after about 30 mins or so she began to make sporadic off-hand comments that she didn't get it, that it was dumb, and why didn't we play & watch sports instead.
I suggested (as politely as possible) that if it wasn't her thing, she didn't have to play. She clearly looked upset, and asked her boyfriend to leave with her, rather than let him continue playing. He looked around at us, and sheepishly said "sorry", and they left after a brief private conversation in the hallway.

The sad thing is this woman was 42, and acting like a 12 year old. Our friend continued to play regularly with us after that night, but she never came back again. They're still a couple, though. The mysteries of life.....

Not so awkward for me, though possibly everyone else. Sitting at the table with my (now ex-)girlfriend, two of my best friends, and one of my friends girlfriends(the DM). We were going through the dungeon as we might, and my girlfriend and I being teenagers as we were...

"Ok Will, your turn."
"He's busy..."
"....I see."
*I manage to regain use of my mouth for other purposes*
"Oh, my turn?"

Well, the only awkward things that have happened in my game would be waiting and hoping that one of my players would take the initiative in leading the party instead of leaving it to my DM PC.... But nothing happened for a good while, so my DM PC continued leading.

While not necesarily socially awkward like most of yours were it was really strange.

The DM was also playing a character because that person wasn't able to be there. Every one but him was unconsious so for a few minutes it was just him quietly rolling dice against himself.

this sort of happened to us, too! We ran from a fight with some mummies into a room with an ooze blindly. Thankfully, our wizard had a rope trick and we all climbed up into it (AoOs and all).

Then, we had to find out what would be waiting for us when we came out, so the DM had to quietly have the mummies fight the ooze for some time (lots of DR and regeneration and stuff, apparently). Finally, the Ooze bit it and we dropped back out to take care of some weakened mummies, but it was a good 10 min of him rolling dice while we got some food.

Great stuff :)

I like the imagery of the DM quietly rolling their way through an encounter that had to be taken care of properly, so there was no DM-fiatness to be had.

It was the day after one of my players had broken up whith his girlfriend, so we were expecting him to be downcast, but he looked fairly normal. I attributed it to denial untill...

While I was in college I played with a group on a Sunday afternoon that consisted of a mixture of old friends and some rather odd characters who kind of drifted together for the love of the game.

We always met up and played at the home of a guy I'll call "Rob", who had the attic of his parent's rather large house as a bedroom.

Rob was a guy who while a great laugh and without a malicious bone in his body, really didn't get out in the real world enough and it showed.

He was a big fish in a small pond and came up with silly schemes such as a book in which he recorded all the rpg tomes that he leant people and the date he expected them back along with the fine he intended to levy if they were late.

Rob also played quircky characters to get a laugh, such as effete knights in Pendragon and pacifist bards only interested in collecting lore in D&D.

One member of the group who was the polar opposite of Rob, who I'll call "Bill", always sparked off him.

Bill probably thought of himself as a man of the world and a charming person, and while he was a fairly nice guy he could be rude and a bit of a lech with anyone.

Bill, unlike Rob, always played gung-ho characters and shouted his opinions all the time...including the fact that he thought Rob's mother was hot...:embarrass

It came to a head one day when Rob announced that he was insitituting a swearbox after his parents had complained about the amount of cursing from the group.

Bill called Rob something along the lines of a silly sausage, to which he replied that the comment was slander and he'd sue him if he kept it up (Rob was always comming out with things like that).

Bill didn't miss a beat and replied:

"No, it's not slander, beacause slander has to be untrue. I could call you a fat, ugly virgin and there's nothing you could do about it because you're fat, ugly and a virgin."

Really one of those moments when you wish you could fly out of a window and away over the horizon!

I had a game going a while back with some friends playing together... we'd all known eachother for a long time one who had a girlfriend that had also been a longtime friend, one of them came over drunk for gaming and we kinda ignored him till he said... I go to the barmaid and give her a big hug like this... and he proceeded to put his face right into the cleavage of her 34c's... that was akward for a while.

The party warlock, who had been seperated from the rest of the group, was fighting some werewolf druids, and being beaten badly. The barbarian comes over and, to distract the druids, said that he began singing a song about the joys of pollution. I, as the DM, had a temporay lapse in judgement and made up the first line of the song, and then accidentally sang it out loud.
"Hooray for toxic chemicals..."

We couldnt stop laughing after that one.

A while back I was running a game in college. There were about five or six of us total, at the time; one female and the rest male. One of the guys in the game was dating her. Now, normally, we're all horribly crude and gross, and we seem to love it. But there was one new guy in the group. As always seems to be the case, we all act like sick, immature asses, but when the new guy tries to do the same (even to a much lesser degree), it always comes off awkward.
Female player: It's my birthday.
New guy: Really? When do I get to give you your birthday spanking?
Boyfriend of female player: * stops mid-sentance from another converstaion * WTF?
I mean, normally we're much worse, but it seemed so wierd to hear him say it.

One my friends decided he wanted to teach his little brother, who was about 16, what it meant to play with a real gaming group since the kid was used to games in the library at school with amatures. So we agreed to let the kid join our group. It went fine for a while until we got to a rather large battle.

Then, thinking his Swashbuckler was an indestructible fighter because our DM was being nice to him, he rushed out to take on a fire giant by himself. He did okay till our DM rolled a 20. Our DM smiled evilly, saying he'd have to roll to confirm. Lo and behold, another 20 came out of that die. This doesn't normally happen, so I piped up, "Another 20 and its instant death." Our DM nodded in agreement since he had been soft with the kid so far he figured why not. Sure enough, another 20. We were all quiet because such a thing hardly happens. Trying to be cool about it, our DM politely said, "Well, he's dead on to the next on the list". Then suddenly the kid started to cry.

He started to yell at our DM for killing his character. We just sat there in awe at what was happening. Then he stormed out of the house whimpering. It was quite for a few minutes in disturbing silence. Then my pal, the older brother, busted out with the most gut wrenching laugh I ever heard. We all shared in the merriment, complete with imitations of the act when suddenly we realized that the little brother came back for his stuff. He stood there in the hallway with tears streaking down his face.

Sadly, my pal had to drive the poor kid home.

I guess me and my friends are just weird. We don't really have awkward moments. Probably because we're all crazy in our own little ways and have just been friends for so long.

Hell, two of the guys in our group got into an arguement *in game* about who's wang was bigger. Then one of the guys suggested settling it based on a real world comparison. Without hesitation the other guy stand up and drops his pants. Other guy does the same and his wife goes to find a ruler. That's probably the most awkward thing to ever happen in one of our sessions. But hey, if you've got one or you've seen one you've technically seen them all.

Sixteen? Crying about a fake person dying in a game based on the outcome of dice?

I probably would have started laughing right in front of him while he was crying. That would have made an even more awkward moment, I bet.

What it was, was comedy gold. The two guys in question were always competing about this or that. The wife just thought it was hilarious. The rest of us well.. what you've never been in a shower room or a locker room before?

She didn't ACTUALLY measure them up. It was more of a "Huh, damn. You win." And back to the game.

During college, Our gaming group got together regularly outside of football season. One day, the game was to be held in my and my room mates appartment and I wasn't told about it. My girlfriend (now my wife) and I were getting, well, intimate in my bedroom and didn't hear anyone in the house.

Well, we were getting busy and we wanted some more room (my bedroom was barely able to hold my desk, bed, and wardrobe as it was), so I grabbed her and threw open my bedroom door and pulled her out with me. She saw them before I did and she immediately ducked for cover back in my room. My friends were standing their just looking in complete silence (bunch of silly virgins :D) with their mouths open. It felt awkward so I just stood there, buck naked in a state of arousal, and said "Well, Whaddya think, Hot or Not?". my plan worked, they busted out laughing and the awkwardness was gone, and later we got to playing the game, but my wife didn't come back out of the room till several hours later.

Well one late night the characters were captured and thrown in jail for being involved in a large bar fight that turned really bloody. While in jail one of the players said that he wasn't going to be a b!tch. So he made a grapple check against the gnome in the party and then an unarmed attack roll to rape him. infuriated by this the player of the gnome after being raped had his character make a grapple check and attempt to rape the other character back (a human). We play with the 3 20's in a row is an instant death rule and the gnome just so happened to roll 3 20's on the unarmed attack. So I ruled that the gnome raped the other character to death. The other players after seeing this said they all retreated into the corner and called for the gaurds to put them in a different cell.

I like how this is the first logical conclusion the player comes to: I'm in prison, so I'm going to get raped. Even if I'm in a cell with my other party members...

What alignment was the PC by the way? And what alignment is the player? :P

The fact your dropped trou and were willing to **** someone on the dining room table in front of a group of friends just cos their imaginary character wants to have imaginary sex with another imaginary character in a D&D game is not "awkward" it is deeply troubling.

There's not a single player I've ever gamed with who wouldn't have laughed in the face of, and walked out on, any DM who had the staggering lack of common sense and decency, not to mention outright gall, to declare that "if there (is) to be sex in game, it (is) going to be LARPed on the table."

My most akward moment is probably more akward here than it was when it happened.

My players suck so bad that I had to make some characters for them to keep the PCs alive. They are that bad at character optimization.

The scout (that I made) does more damage than the knight (player made) against constructs (which are immune to the scouts skirmish damage).

ok, well i have two stories. both of them involve my good russian buddy dimitri. But b/c there were two dimitris that played with us, he was nicknamed vodka.

So, one moment he are role playing, and we encounter this person from whom we need information. problem is the person is gay. so vodka, with the 18 charisma leads the diplomacy with him. and he rolls, and gets a natural 20. so then our DM makes him roll a homosexuality check, on the d% poor vodka rolls Two Zero's, which equates to 100% homosexual. it was SO funny afterward b/c then vodka has the act gay with his character. hitting on party members and such.

The other story, this is after vodka's gay revolation. Me, being the cleric, heals people. and with heal being a touch spell, i had to constantly poke vodkas character to heal him. Vodka would make off hand comments about how my touch made him feel better. thus we derived the term "Pleasure Touches" so from them to the end of that campaign, i no longer healed people. I gave them all pleasure touches. Lets just say the drawf fighter wasnt too keen with that.

It had, in fact, been mentioned before the game started that this would be a houserule, and I don't feel it's healthy to set conditions and not be willing to stand behind them.

I could have said "no sex," but that's kind of like telling your college-bound kid "don't drink." In any case, I do in fact lack the qualities mentioned as lacking: common sense and decency.

The Folding Chair of Salvation is a testament to that; it is grounded in actual happenings to a certain degree.

I tend to avoid situations in which my player's characters become sexually active. Not that I'm opposed to it only that it can easily detract from the game.

In gaming awkwardness seems to abound one of the best and most funny moments was when I was giving the characters some background information and was explaining the break between the surface elves and the drow elves.

DM (Me): In the dim and distant past long before the humans had begun to write down history, there was a deep elven schism.

Teenage Female Player: "What's an elven schism?"

Dead silence reigned around the table while we all looked at each other and then fell apart laughing.

"yes" "why" "to kill people" "Thats grounds enough!!!" *kills them all*

Not sure if this one counts, but a comic/gaming store we used to have here had a gaming day. Half of the space available was for rpg's, the other half was for collectible card games (usually Raw Deal). I was playing both at the time so I hopped back and forth all day. At one point a regular drops in with his 14 year old son to play CCG's. My group is setting there having a decent session when this guys kid gets into a rules disagreement with another kid and when he loses says "That's just like a ******* jew". At which point his father jumps up, screams "We dont talk that way", and drills his kid in the face so hard he lays him out. Our game session ended (as did everything else), the cops were almost called, and the store no longer hosted games, and did away with gaming products which led to it closing down :(

Cryo, you're my hero.

I once DM'ed for a group of teenagers. One of them was a girl, she was in a relationship and took her "significant other" to game with us.

That guy, while in a city, went looking for a brothel. He actually found one and spent a night there. I have to mention the group policy was "no metagaming, no secrets". So that guy offered the woman he spent the night with to join the party, and she agreed (she didn't have the slightest idea what adventuring was and just wanted to grab a share of loot and get a life).

Then his girlfriend asked me for a moment "in private", dragged me out of the room and started yelling at me something like: "You're the worst DM I've ever seen, your brothel is unrealistic (WTF???), the workers should all be infected w****s, they won't ever take up adventuring, so I insist that they rob him of all his money and stuff, infect him with mummy rot (?) and throw him out to the street NAKED. Else I quit."

What else could I do? So the girl stormed out of the building, forgetting her stuff in the room, and I had to explain to that guy what happened.

(This just happened yesterday.)

We had been having an IC argument for at least an hour, when I (the DM) think I hear the doorbell. I wasn't sure, so I just ignored it and went back to the argument. My dad opens the door, and it is my neighbor and 3 of her friends (all teenage girls - our age). They were planning on singing Hannukah carols, but since my dad answered the door instead of me, they decided to come downstairs and watch us play and take random pictures.

I got right back into the argument with one player who really didn't want to have his picture taken. He ended up grabbing a pillow from the couch and putting it in front of his face (which they took several pictures up). He ended up going upstairs and hiding out on the deck, where I found him when they left.

I was thankful for the distraction, because my co-DM wasn't there, and our plan for the session was "wing-it."

Well it was kinda the third incident involving these 2. I wasn't around for the first 2 incidents but supposedly the kid also got into an argument with someone about wrestling being fake, and whether or not getting hit with a steel folding chair hurt, and promptly decided to use one on his opponent. Eventually the owner thought that all gamers were either suicidally insane losers or serial killers (his words not mine) and decided to stop carrying the product to get rid of them. Unfortuneately most of his money came from CCG's and Miniatures.

I wonder why the store owner would think that if it was just those two? Why didn't he just ban them from his store? Surely he knew where most of his revenue came from. Unless those two were his biggest customers...

No, they were not. It's pretty much just the pictures that he hides from.

One of them actually took a Beholder mini, held it up for a picture with me and made a weird face. She put it on Facebook and commented it saying she found herself in the picture attractive. I made the obvious comment - Beauty is in the eye of the Beholder.

He'd had problems with other people too. His being parked about 100 feet from the ghetto didn't help. He had a crappy location, but people were willing to show up despite that. But he had too many loud mouthed idiots dropping by, and decided to concentrate on comics instead of gaming thinking that if he had a larger selection of comics it'd make up for the gaming revenue by attracting new customers. But he didn't advertise effectively if at all. Instead what happened was he filled the shelves with product that never sold and alienated his remaining customers.

I had played at a certain soon-to-be-infamous* GM's house pretty late into the night. We were all playing in the kitchen, which was directly across from her sleeping parents' bedroom. One of her many cats starting quietly meowing maybe a foot away from their bedroom door.

So, what is the only possible appropriate action one would have to take in order to stop this cat from meowing so her parents could continue resting undisturbed?

For this GM: Scream.

At the top of her freakin' lungs. Like so:

Cat: Meow.
GM: SHUT UP!!!
Cat: Meow.
GM: SHU-UUUT U-UUUP!!!!!
Cat: Meow.
GM: SHU-UUUUUUUT U-UUUUUUUP!!!!!!!

She did this at least three times over the course of a few seconds. And just as above, each time she did, the cat retorted with a relatively quiet "meow." This, of course, warranted a louder, more drawn-out scream.

Keep in mind, we and the quite-perceptive GM were only 7 feet away from her parents' room with nothing but a everyday wooden door between us and them. Us players were probably just as barely audible to her sleeping parents as the cat was in the first place.

* There was a lot of crazy bull regarding this GM's game (and even the one session I played alongside her as a PC). I'm planning on writting an extensive post or blog about her campaign some time in the future, footnoted with quotes from various boards and "Good-Gamemastering Skills" books, so that my story can educate as well as entertain while pointing out how everything goes wrong!

And I don't feel it is helpful to set arbitrary conditions.

You could have done what pretty much every other DM does: if someone wants to sleep with the barmaid then they do so "off camera," you don't need to roleplay it out and you certainly don't offer to demand they **** you in public.

If you do indeed lack both common sense and decency, as you declare, then there is little I, or anyone, can do to help.

Might as well contribute. Mine is both gross and awkward. I game with the brother-in-law and a few other guys. One of those other guys has a brother who wanted to play (27 yrs old now). The brother, we'll call him Bill, used to play professional baseball and worked out all the time. He also took massive amounts of protein to body build.

So, we start playing and close up the room. My wife and my brother-in-law's wife are across the hall watching movies. The door to our game room is closed. Then, all hell breaks loose. Bill startes letting out these horrid farts. Something crawled up his butt and died and had obviously been rotting there for a few weeks. This goes on for 3 hours.

Everybody in the room is gagging. My brother-in-law, his house mind you, opens the door and everybody goes outside for air. The next day, he starts cleaning house. The stench moved through the whole house, got in the carpet and the furniture. After lots of lysol and febreeze and two water-vacuums, the smell remained until he could air-out the house over a week.

. . . Bill never came back . . .

I was a DM and most of my group was about 19 or 20. Two of the guys playing didnt like each other, and that showed in the game, since they were always competing. Lets call them Bob and John.

John managed to get a wife in the game, and the other guy, Bob, imediataly started to plot to get her and make she betray her husband. All the time this plot happened, John kept telling me to stop Bob, but I said there was nothing in the rules against what he was doing.

Of course, Bob DID manage to have sex with the other guy´s wife. At the same time, he also managed to incriminate John in his brotherhood (John was a cleric) and he got expeled. John told me to stop Bob, but I told him he couldnt do anything, because his character didnt knew that had happened. Then John got so furious he punched the other guy in the face and a fight started. We separated both and John went away, to never play with us again.

That was pretty awkward, specially for me, since I was the DM. Well, **** happens.

If so, just some perspective: Breasts are a clandestine affair in America. For whatever reason, these gelatinous rondures are made hidden and forbidden to most of us Yanks since we're sentient.

Now, there are plenty of guys who have had countless women or those who go to strip clubs all the time and probably wouldn't make a such a big deal of sudden toplessness, but others, such as younger men or those who have infrequent but longer relationships, don’t see ‘em up close and personal too often. Pretty much, though we all knew each other and this was perfectly in-character for her. There was no one in the group seeing her **** for the first time.

Is Canada like Europe, where nudity isn't a big deal?

Not quite as accepted as in Europe though much more than in the U.S.. It is perfectly legal in Ontario, for example, for women to go topless in public.

You still don't see women walking around with them just hanging out though. It was more of a statement by one or two women than anything.

I was a human fighter and a friend was a human "tribesman" (a human with half-orc ability modifiers) barbarian. I was fighting an enemy by myself, and it happened to be the last on the field. The barbarian runs in, takes one swing, and kills the enemy. I (for whatever reason) was angry about that. That night, I snuck into his room at the inn and stole his maul, then sold it to a shopkeeper the next day. The party's halfling rogue, who was quite close with the barbarian, saw the maul, didn't recognize as his maul, but was very similar, bought it and gave it to the barbarian. That night, they set up a trap in the room, but I saw that and decided to stop. I then realized at the end of the session that I really slowed the game down for a pointless thing, and felt bad, so I had my character leave a note explaning what had happened and left. It was an awkward situation for me, at least.

In the same campaign, my fighter wielded a greatsword. I was on watch outside of a building, so what do I do? I attack the wall trying to knock it down. I roll a "1" on the d20. "You miss the wall." "How the hell do I miss a wall?" "I dunno, but you missed it."

One more thing: in another game, none of the players had talked to the others about characters they were playing. This is more amusing than awkward: one paladin (me), two monks, and two rogues. The monks and myself didn't want any loot, and the rogues would fight over who got what. Too bad that campaign didn't get very far.

I find this disturbing. Like Europe? There are probably more differences between Sweden and Italy then between USA and Canada. Everytime someone thinks all of Europe is the same, I die a little. So if you keep doing this, you'll be a murderer. Do you really want that to happen?

Me and one of my gaming friends both enjoy a slap-stick, sexual style of jokes that none of the other players truly appreciates or gets, but we sometimes cry in laughter and one time I even nearly fell of my seat.

This one night we had been playing DnD, and we had made some great jokes. An recurring joke was about one of our other players (let's call him Bob) his hidden desire to see us naked. He has a real bad choice of words, and makes loads of sexual puns without realising it. Later that night, and we switched to poker.

We had been playing a few games, and the game got kinda boring, so Bob, trying to keep us interested, offered to 'Play a different kind of poker' while looking at us real seriously. We were both looking at him and bursted into laughter for atleast 5 minutes, crying and choking. We both knew that he had just suggested to play for money, but it was just too funny not to think about it :D

Bob never got that until we explained it to him a day later. None of us could do it that night without laughing.

When we first started up a campaign after a long hiatus, one of my players (there were just two of them) cried out that he "just can't do it" and had some kind of breakdown at the table. Now, the reason for this is there was a lot of history with this game and later on it ended as a result. However, the other player got angry, because I had "spent so much time preparing the game" and he decided to stand up and punch the other guy. I got up, yanked them apart and yelled to stop the fight.

The guy who punched the first player apologized and stormed out of the room to calm down. The other guy kept crying, more out of guilt than anything, and I had to calm him down before we could start back up again. Once we did, everything went fine and those two spend more time together than I do with either of them now. So all's well that ends well.

As a side note, I think we should get away from the old "stupid Americans" rant before the topic gets locked or something. It's kind of an old joke anyway.

The Sudetenland is not a country. It was a term to describe a region of Chezchoslovakia (the former) during the first half of the century. In all honesty, i doubt most Europeans could name all the Eur0pean countries.

My most awkward gaming moment was deliberate. One of my players wanted to do the nasty with a barmaid, and I had clearly said that if there was to be sex in game, it was going to be LARPed on the table. So I took my pants off and asked him whether he wanted to be on the top or bottom.

None of my players have suggested in-game sex ever since...

wow, now see i totaly would have called your bluff(?) and gotten on the table with a bit less on.

that players a wimp.

I was DM'ing once--I was the only female in a group of guys. I was wearing a long dress that buttoned down the front, and when I stood up to make an inspired speech with dramatic gestures, ALL the buttons suddenly gave way!

The poor guy I was directly in front of looked like a largemouth bass. :OMG!

All I could do was turn red and clutch my dress closed. (Although as I made a beeline for my bedroom to change, I did hear applause!)

the same, exact, thing happened to me once. the only difference is because my dress had small little buttons, i didnt notice untill i stopped the speach and noticed the players expressions.:hides:

I got an oldie but a goodie:

Long time past, I don't even remember exactly what we were playing anymore, but we were discussing the setting as we were setting up. The in-game religions came up, and I made an unfavorable comparison between a particularly instrusive and evangelical faith and Jehovah's Witnesses, which lead to...

Me: ... you know, just like Jehovah's Witnesses.
Other player: So, just like my dad then?

Much apologizing ensued. I swear, I'm not a bigot, I insult everyone equally! :D

...wait, that's not really "dropping it", is it?

Well, back on topic.

This one was more funny for me, and awkward for one player:
We were at a slow spot in one game. Two players had brought their magic cards. One was showing off her new deck she'd built, and the other was flipping through some new cards he had bought (and was passing them around to us). So, the first player picks up a deck and starts flipping through it to check out the cards. She start saying "I have this one. And this one. And this one...". This goes on for several cards before she realizes she's looking at her own deck!
We still give her grief about that one!

Okay, this one is really awkward, though it wasn't because of me. Our group consisted of Me, age 13(back then) I was DMing, A friend of mine age 14, Sorcerer, A friend of mine, age 16, Playing a rouge, and a new guy age 21, playing a cleric.

Anyways, the new guy decides to ready an action to "Do a flying kick at the goblin as he climbs over the top of the cliff" He then said he wanted to force the goblin back, and bounce back himself. So he tries, and goes over the cliff. He dies. The 21 year old player then goes on a rant similar to this "The rules don't say that you 13 year old brat, stupid idiot, you can't DM. And your showing favoritism, the other guy didn't go over the cliff" It should probably be pointed out that the other guy was another player attacking with a ranged weapon.

A little later, he is another fighter, and he is using a reach weapon. So he's in a 5 ft corridor, attacking from behind an ally. He then says that he should roll to see if he hits the ally. I say he shouldn't since he can't hit the square in front of him with an enemy, and realistically a long spear(well a pike 10 ft) isn't going to hit someone five feet in front of you because you pull back that far. So he throws a tantrum about how I know nothing about spears, and that that sort of stuff happens, and that he is a master spear fighter.

So the other players decide to get out the fake spears and beat him to get him to shut up. Naturally I decide to help. So the idiot holds the spear in one hand about a foot behind the tip and twirls it above his head. So my friend stabs him. He then complains about cheating, and my other friend the 14 year old steps up. Moron holds the spear half way down, using both hands, and spins it in front of him, finally managing to hit himself trying to strike with the back end against my friend three feet out of reach. Finally the moron holds his spear in the middle against me, in one hand so that he can "catch yours then stab you" So I walk around defensively, and he stabs, misses by about a foot and a half, and I stab, hit him, and knock him over.

When we get back to D&D he is muttering about how he is still better than all of us and we were just lucky. The game goes on, and all of us are getting really fed up with this guy. I make another ruling he doesn't like, something about how guys throw swords really far in movies, they shouldn't count as improvised thrown weapons. He then goes around insulting everyone, saying all of us are "idiotic immature jocks" He then says he'll prove he is smarter by beating us in chess. 9 moves later, he is in check mate, and I am sitting across the table happy. So he knocks off all of the chess pieces, knocks the D&D stuff on the floor, and leaves, muttering about how we are all "immature cheaters" and that he is going to "tell my parents on you".

We got two new players later, both were younger than us(9 and 8) but both were a lot better players, and more mature than the 21 year old guy. And of course the original group still laughs about how he went around calling us immature.

Most awkward moment: Telling a problem player not to come back after his character eventually got himself killed.
He claimed I had plotted all along to get rid of him, amongst other pretty unfair things.
I still see him at conventions, and he always ignores me.
Oh well.

Apart from that, we haven't had too many awkward moments playing D'n'D.

(Oh yeah, and I'm European and I totally agree that it is unreasonable to expect Americans to be able to name all the countries in Europe. I can only name a smattering of the States, a few provinces in Canada and a few South American, Middle Eastern, Asian and African countries. I have to say as an Irish European, that nudity isn't all that common or socially acceptable here, and not really that common/acceptable in many of the places I've been on the continent, excepting beaches and the like. Phew. )

In my old gaming group we had a female player that was quite short, and somewhat overweight. She played a halfling rogue. Our low level party was gearing up to travel the wilderness, so we were sorting out supplies and trail rations. We were figuring out how much we needed, how much it would cost us etc., when I (quite new to the game) began to wonder whether a halfling's rations should be the same size and cost. So I suddenly blurt out: "if she's short, does she eat less?"

A heartbeat of silence, followed by laughter from the group. I wanted to crawl into a dark corner and die....

I remember an awkward moment involving an old-school hate-filled dungeon crawl, a slightly pervy DM ("Joe"), and a well-endowed female who was a few arrows short of a quiver ("Beth").

So, we were navigating our way through this non-sensical 1E-style dungeon when we (and by we, I mean Beth's rogue scouting ahead) came across a large sculpture of a jester's smiling face. Just looking at the thing gave Beth's character two negative levels. Beth complained quite a bit, trying to argue her way out of it, but didn't get very far. After a while of this, Joe made her an offer of "I'll restore your levels if you show me your t!ts."

Suffice to say, Beth took Joe up on his offer. :D

What's more, this happened three more times before the session ended...

One of my current group is seriously phobic about snakes. So, we were taking a quick bathroom/smoke/soda break, and the smokers (including the snake-phobic) were sitting outside.

One of my cats came round the house with something wriggling in his mouth--and proceeded to drop a still-living (if slightly mangled) garter snake into his lap.
