| VulcanStormwrath09-08-06, 05:13 PM | The epic party: Monk 2/rogue14/Ninja of the crescent moon 10 (party leader) Cleric 6/ wizard 6/ mystic theurge 10 (his epic cohort), Terran dwarven fighter 22(ECL 24), Dragon shaman 20/ fighter 1/weapon master 3 (me) Elven sorceress 7/ bonded summoner 10(air)/ assassin 2/ force missile mage 5 (with elder elemental companion) Drow Beguiler 20/ mindbender 4 Monk 20/ cleric 5 Cleric 24 The setting: In the city of Union, Ohm and Kale (the ninja and the dwarf respectively recruit adventerers to fill our a party in order to fulfill a prophecy requiring warriors of destiny. (Both are 2 of the 3 remaining members of the campaign that led to becoming epic, the third is the monk who’s been gone for a year and comes back to join them again) The crazy: After less than a day the party has found themselves in a prison they cannot escape with nothing but a series of riddles, and an old wizard who tells them that the solving these lead to escape. After a lot of thinking the come to the solution. The key to freedom is death. The old man responds, "correct, now you need only solve the meaning of…." The dwarf takes a power attack swing at his head and he dissappears. WTF #1:confused: The rest of the party is now yelling at the obviously insane dwarf for ruining their chances at freedom, when, feigning a moment of thoughtfullness, he makes a power attack at the summoner who’s standing right next to him doing about ¾ of her hp in damage. WTF #2 . Insanity erupts. I as the Dragon shaman attempt to restrain him using a spiked chain grapple attampt and activating the weapon’s feeblemind effect on him. The ninja, his longtime partner sees this as a hostile action and sneak attacks me for 250pts of damage. The monk chooses to refocus as his action and the cleric stays out of it(lawful evil). The elemental picks up the dwarf in it’s whirlwind attack as the sorceror drills him with augmented magic missiles. The theurge cohort casts a fireball that due to spell resistance only harms his allies. At this point convinced all hell has broken loose the beguiler comes over to me to see if I’m ok since due to the ninja’s stealth no one actually saw what hit me. The dwarf breaks free of the whirlwind and dire charges the sorceress, healed due to magical items, and completely obliterates her. She had the feat Final Strike. As she erupted, dealing a total of 140pts of combined sonic, electrical and wind impact damage instantly killing me and the beguiler who was now standing next to me, and injuring everyone else. The cleric, who is the most refined person in the party screams out " Everybody’s dead, WTF!!!":weep: Without a pause, the ninja beats the cleric to deatH with a flurry of sudden strikes /sneak attacks and both he and the dwarf look at the monk. Monk " Oh, I get it." makes the DC30 will save and breaks his own neck. WTF#3:( The theurge looks around, makes a prayerful motion and placing his hands over his heart Harms himself and collapses to the ground. The ninja and the dwarf rush each other and after dealing each other over 100 pts of damage the ninja pauses. "I don’t feel like doing this right now" makes the will save and shoves a blade through his own throat. The dwarf throws his epic axe straight up into the air and stands directly under the falling blade greeting it head first. First ever self inflicted TPK. WTF??? |
| Psychoticpsymon09-08-06, 06:28 PM | That was... incredible? Wow. Are you serious? Your DM actually ended it like that? o.o |
| Bob_The_Wizard09-08-06, 09:17 PM | Wow. Umm... Why the heck would the fighter do that? And couldn't one of the spellcasters have used a Mordenkainen's Disjunction effect to do away with whatever magical effect was keeping them from simply teleporting/planeshifting out? |
| AZNsupermarket09-09-06, 11:39 AM | the perfect ending to this would be that all your characters wake up to find themselves fine. They figured out the riddle. The only escape was death. By killing themselves they escape from the prison or something... |

By killing themselves they escape from the prison or something... That's exactly what he's done, we all have woken up and found ourselve in a waiting area with hundreds of other creatures awaiting admittance into "blocks" (seems like he means cell blocks) The thing is in theory the fighter figured it out first and acted. In theory.... everyone else acted in response, we had no idea the DM planned for us to wake up, everyone was figured this was for real, and we all remember who attacked who and who helped who up to the point where our characters die. So needless to say the next watch should be interesting. Especially since the assassin and the ninja are both fully capable of coup de grace'ing everyone in their sleep. |
| Osedox09-10-06, 12:57 PM | I think at epic levels the game should end, I mean seriously what more is there to do? Since you guys all have a good group dynamic start over at like 6th level so that you dont totaly suck and start to kick ass all over again. I say this mostly because I hate the epic rules, they seem foolish to me, but to each his own. BTW great way to go. |

This is the first time we've really played as epic so it's sort of the proving ground, and we get to use Union. What we'll probably do is give it a few more sessions at epic then if it's too insane, become gods or die against an epic version of the terrasque or something legendary like that then start over at 5 and play 5-20. The ninja, fighter and monk in this group were part of a group starting at 15,(2 of the other charcters left to reclaim a conquered kingdom.) As a matter of fact the player of the monk started him at level 1 ,4 years ago when he was living in Japan and played an Oriental Adventures campaign. |
| Osedox09-10-06, 01:59 PM | Sweet, it must be fun to raise a character from 1st through 26th. Dont get me wrong, I love high level characters, I just think the fun stops happening past 20th level, or should I say the fun happens way way too often past 20th level. |
