| High King Tigernmas06-17-05, 07:13 AM | Do you guys listen to music while playing a game of D&D? Usually we put on a bit of Emperor, Folk/Folk Metal, one time a dwarven pub we even had Flogging Molly (Ya Drunk Ya Drunk, Ya Silly Old Fool!)... So what does everyone else use (if anything) to get a bit of background ambience? |
| IrishDevil06-17-05, 08:30 AM | Ahh yes Flogging Molly and the Devil's dance floor ;) . We often listen to soundtracks such as Conan, Bram stoker's Dracula or some chamber music from the dish. Sometimes we listen to my GF's symphony that we have on a burnt cd. |

| wordserpent06-19-05, 04:41 AM | Music with words distracts my mind from running the game. But soundtracks and classical music works well for me. On rare occasions I will cue up a piece for a specific event in the game such as The Imperial March from Empire Strikes Back when the BBEG makes an entrance or Holst's: Mars-Bringer of War for big battle scenes. These are rare though because taking the time to switch to a new song delays the excitement of the game. Of course it's easier now in the age of the CD and the MP3. Waaay back in the 80's we had to cue the cassette tapes in advance... |
| colonelthread06-19-05, 12:46 PM | I found this one (http://www.palefacesound.com/store/environ.html) the other day, but have not purchased it yet. I'm experimenting with Winamp right now to play different ambient sounds during our next session. Neverwinter Nights has a large selection of .WAV files that I converted to .MP3 in hopes of using my iPod during the game, however I can't do crossfading or selection of just a few files without creating multiple playlists first. Using Winamp on a laptop gives me better control of which file(s) to play at which time, on the fly, and crossfading too. The only problem is that I will have to drag a set of speakers along with me, as we aren't playing at my house right now (I hate to keep the kids up too late). NWN also has some cool music, which are tagged as .BRP files (or something like that), but they are just .MP3s and can easily be renamed as such. I just need to be careful and not select the tracks which are played frequently during NWN, as I don't want my players mind's to start drifting away from the table. |
