Here are a couple of questions i have. 1) Number of attacks. I have not seen anything in the 3.5 players handbook or DM guide about this. Have they done away with it? 2) How do you come up with charecters modifiers for saving throws? |

Once it reaches +6 you get a second attack at +1. It reads +6/+1. Each number is a separate attack. Your Fortitude, Reflex and Will saves are adjusted by your ability modifier for the related stat: Fort is Con, Reflex is Dex, Will is Wis. Good Luck! I was baffled for a couple of games too, going from 2e to 3.0 after a 5 year break. G |

If you can, find a group already running 3.5 and get them to let you run a character in it for a few games. That'll be enough to get you going. I'm soon to do the nephew/game thing too. Good luck to us both! :D |

I was a First Edition (basic books) that jumped on 2nd Edition and then stubbornly stuck to it when that "new fangled" edition came out. I spent several years doing NO playing, but refining my campaign world and getting my house-rules in order. Five, one-inch, three-ring binders of house rules... I finally broke down and joined a group playing this REALLY new thing called 3.5 and d20... You don't know the joy and tears I felt when I threw away four of my house rule binders - and the majority of the stuff from the fifth. I now have one binder with SEVEN pages in it. I have officially sold my soul to 3.5, as it answered SO many of the unanswered questions from 2nd Edition!! Unfortunately, it appears that Wizards used a herd of dyslexic monkeys to proof-read and edit the books, because most new players/DMs have similar questions to yours. Infideli answered the question above - you get one attack per round until... you get two... and then three. It all depends upon class - and the number of weapons you swing. |
| The_Jester09-19-06, 11:57 AM | 1) You get one attack plus bonus attacks when your main attack gets mighty enough. As stated above. Each time your newest attack reaches +6 (not counting bonuses by strength or magic, strictly the bonuses from the class) you gain an extra attack. This applies to all classes and not just fighters, although martial classes get it much sooner and more often. 2) There are only the saving throws now for all situations: fortitude, reflex and will. When you need to be tough enough to take something (poison, pain) it's fortitude. When you need to be fast to dodge something (fireball, falling rocks) it's relfex. When you need to be strong-willed to fight something (illusion, charm) then it's will. All three saves have base numbers given by the classes, modified by stats. This is really the basic premise of 3.5 (and 3rd Edition in general). You take a class given number (BAB, save, whatever) add in a statistic bonus (strength, dex, whatever) and other modifiers then add the total to a d20 roll. Higher is always better. |
