cloud1052 08-12-06, 07:35 PM	Over the years I have tested (and created) many different ways of making a battle grid and so far the only two grids that actually have worked for me were a dry erase board ,and attaching many sheets of graph paper together then drawing on them from there.( I would have said the ready made grids that are found in many dnd books and products, but they never really fit my campaign setting) now I have become curious as to what other players use, whether it be a mat or the ready make ones, also any suggestions for another way to make a grid would be great.Thank you.

Vintar 08-12-06, 10:22 PM	Bulletin board with graph paper (drawing on graph paper as needed) on it using pins to represent people. Works quite well.
Magnus Magus 08-12-06, 10:36 PM	I do everything on photoshop with "counters" on seperate layers than the background. There's a built in grid that can be turned on and off with a simple command. I've created templates for bursts, cones and other customizable effects. My laptop can support a second monitor, so I keep my notes on one monitor out of sight and my players only see what I want them to. Great stuff, eats up a lot of memory. It worked so well another player did the same thing, except he used Illustrator. The advantage being that the files were smaller in size and the pictures didn't lose any definition when scaling up or down. Also, this guy was better at making cool little icons for characters than me. My last DM didn't have the graphic expertise that my friend and I have, so he took it in a new direction - he found one of those terrain programs that have pregenerated elements (I don't know which one) and he printed up multiple sheets, taping each page together. We used miniatures on the map and it worked great.

Thurbane 08-13-06, 01:53 AM	Can you write with dry erase markers on a laminated sheet of paper? Absolutely - we do it every week. Just make sure you erase it after use...if you put it away for a couple weeks with the marker still on it, it becomes very hard to remove, though...
