battlemat-how big should it be? [Archive] - Wizards Community

05-15-06, 09:15 AM i am thinking of building my own battlemat out of styrofoam with a nice wood frame.
but how big should it be to cover most situations in d&d rpg?

05-15-06, 09:43 AM as a guideline, a single action can easily cover 160 feet, (move 40, running).
If you are going to use 5 feet per square, , thats 32 squares, quite a lot actually.

05-15-06, 10:13 AM We use a pair of 4x4 plexiglass sheets on a 4x8 table. On one side of the plexiglass in permanant marker we drew 1 inch squares. Flip it over and use dry erase markers to draw whatever you need (We laid down white poster board on the table under the plexiglass. Each sheet is 240 feet by 240 feet - reasonable for most encounters. We use both if more space is necessary.

Cost wise, depending on thickness about $30-$40 US.
