BBC article about D&D [Archive] - Wizards Community

06-13-04, 10:50 PM I was surfing around the BBC today and look what I came across! http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/3655627.stm I like all the comments that others made, I can identify with them very much.

I agree with most of their comments except the one deriding us for being childish and the one complaining that medieval times were worse than the ones we play it- yeah, the second one is a given or "Farms and Famine" would not be a bestseller.

Is really true.

I mean think about how far gaming has come with all the online RPGs and stuff.
But we still set around a table and roll our dice.
And it is still the most fun thing I can think of.

06-14-04, 09:45 AM Mazes & Monsters was the movie. The players in that one were LARPing rather than table top RPing. It was not a great film.

06-14-04, 05:54 PM Its good to see a positive media interpretation of our beloved game (or world). I play pc, mega drive II, playstation and xbox, all put together they still can't equal a single D&D session. Hopefully it will encourage others to explore the infinite possibilities of D&D, and break a few undeserved myths. I remember I was in high school, playing the boxed sets when I received the "as long as you know its just a game" line from my parents. That was good for a laugh, I wont be telling my (future) children that as I'll be their DM.

06-14-04, 06:53 PM LARPing = Live Action Role Playing. That's when you dress up like your character and act out the events in the game.

It is fefinately one of the more positive articles I have seen on BBC online, for any subject really. Talking Point is usually a good source of complaints, whinging and general all round nastyness.
