Bear Miniature [Archive] - Wizards Community

10-29-04, 08:54 PM Does anyone know any companies that produce a Bear Miniature. I have seen Wear-bears, Dwaves riding Bears, but no stand alone Bear.

I have a Druid in my upcomming campaign that plans on having a Bear as his animal companion.

Please post any links that you know of.

You could try and e-mail the guy (or gal) who painted that mini to see if they remember where they found it, who makes it, etc.

Otherwise, search around on www.coolminiornot.com - you'll find a bunch of neat stuff. I searched for "bear" and got 53 pages. The grand majority and "standard bearer" but there were also owlbears, werebears, bugbears, etc - so you might have luck finding one there.

10-30-04, 12:10 PM The latest D&D Miniature line, Aberrations, has a figure of a Celestial Bear. Not my most favorite mini but you should be able to get it on the cheap if not for free.

10-30-04, 04:11 PM Its a celestial black bear, which means it is a medium figure (rather than a large creature, such as a brown or polar bear).

If that's what you are looking for, I'll happily send you one in return for postage and packing (from the UK). Or you could look on Ebay - doubt one would cost more than a dollar plus P&P.

Personally, if I wanted a medium bear I'd take a scissors to the Dwarven werebear from the Dragoneye set and remove the axe, as I think its a better bear figure.

12-08-04, 08:22 PM Ha...I had the same problem and have conveniently come up with this answer to the never ending question of good bear minis:

Black bear = lame celestial bear mini from D&D minis (just repaint it as I did and add a good base...voila passable bear mini)

Brown bear, polar bear and dire bear = great dire bear miniature from reaper minis (It rocks and you can just paint it to suit your bear).

For large bears, usually there are polar bears in those packs. Of course 1/2 the fun of minis is repainting them.

For the sake of brevity let me restate my position:

D&D minis are not a lot better, but Reaper are.

I also hold to my original statement:

Assorted plastic animals suck fat, and I do mean FAT arse. :)
