gnomester 07-26-04, 07:44 PM	Hi, I'm a 14-year old (nearly 15) male living in New Jersey, and I have just become interested in Dungeons & Dragons after reading several of the books. What is the best way to begin, and where should I look? The only RPGs I have played thus far are several video games, such as Okage, Golden Sun, Shining Force, and Dragon Warrior, so I am unfamiliar with this kind of gaming.

First off, calling those get-the-item Japanese games RPGs is a joke. If you want to experience more RPG-style video games, take a look at the subforum here and check out the Baldur's Gate stuff (it's available real cheap by now). If you can get away from video games, buy the Player's Handbook (an old 3.0 one should go cheap enough) and show it to some of your friends. Get a few people together and see if you can make characters. Then grab a couple monsters from the SRD on here and run a quick combat just to get a feel for it. By then you should be more comfortable with the system, and ready to develop a deeper plot. Might be a good time to buy the Dungeon Master's Guide.
