| beckyg10-24-06, 11:19 PM | When life gives you styrofoam balls, make Beholders (or call a doctor). http://www.wildlife-fantasy.com/photos/beholders_close-up_scary1.jpg I was running a D&D campaign with Beholders in it, and to my surprise, Wizards of the Coast has not made any freakin' Beholder figurines! (Not that I could find, anyway.) They're only one of the most trademark monsters in the system, so why would we want to go and do something like make some figures of them - especially when we could make a fiendish gnoll warlock instead. Everyone knows there are just dozens of them running around. 9_9 Anywho, I corrected this shortcoming by making my own out of styrofoam balls, brown paint, pipe cleaners, googly-eyes (yes they move) and my trusty glue gun (also useful for making drool). The mouth I grabbed from one of my many pics of Cthulhu type monsters and printed them out and glued them on. Here you can see that I used homemade stands to put them on (courtesy of my husband). I placed an unpainted figure there for scale. The Beholders are about the right size in comparison to the human figure. http://www.wildlife-fantasy.com/photos/beholders_scale1.jpg The finale of my campaign had a Beholder "Hive Mother" in it. They're bigger and nastier. Mine also happened to be a lich, but that's niether here nor there. ;-) Hive Mother http://www.wildlife-fantasy.com/photos/beh_hive_mother1.jpg Hive Mother in scale. http://www.wildlife-fantasy.com/photos/beh_hive_mother_scale2.jpg I know they're kinda primitive, but they get the job done. ;) |

(Not that I could find, anyway.) You weren't looking Hard Enough (http://www.wizards.com/dnd/images/dk_gallery/x32.jpg). Regardless, those are some really awesome-looking beholders. Complete with proper flying in the air! Bonus kudos for the drool. :cookie: |
| Androlphas10-25-06, 07:03 AM | Brilliant! |
| CzarGarrett10-25-06, 08:54 AM | /target OP /salute Awesome |
| Moriollad_Redralle10-25-06, 09:33 AM | Not that I know anything about crafts, but wood won't balance very well on cardboard (not for long, anyway), which is relatively easy to bend. Note that before you try to use those much. |
| mathogre10-25-06, 09:50 AM | Those are beautiful!!!! Great job. Hmmm... maybe I can get my daughter to make one for me... :behold: :behold: :behold: :behold: |
| mearrin6910-25-06, 10:50 AM | Very nice! If anyone is a teacher I vote that they have their entire class make beholders and beholder-kin. It might set the rest of the faculty on edge, however. |
| Fabius Maximus10-25-06, 10:53 AM | Awww! They're so cute. :D |

You could make an army of arts-and-crafts beholders with the same amount of money. How did you make the droll, that is brilliant! |
| eileenh2810-25-06, 11:20 AM | The angry eyebrow over the central eye makes it art. Great work! |
| invaladuser10-25-06, 03:14 PM | Best Figure Ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
| EscherEnigma10-25-06, 06:00 PM | I suddenly feel inspired to write an adventure with beholders as the main villains after I craft a few of these myself. nifty! |
| edit1310-25-06, 06:03 PM | The angry eyebrow over the central eye makes it art. Great work! Quoted for truth. |
| Silverthumb12810-25-06, 07:19 PM | How did you make the droll, that is brilliant! It looks like some sort of glue? I'm gonna have to go with the mob here, those Beholders=great. Anyone who brought those to my game would get 5000 xp automatically. :D |

| runestar10-26-06, 10:12 AM | I wonder if there might be a potential market for homemade dnd minis on ebay...:P |
| bgt10-26-06, 10:33 AM | Thank Pelor my mom practicly has a A.C. Moore in our basement; these blow the squares of cut-up lottery ticket i was going to use for beholders clean out of the water. beckyg, giving you any old forum cookie isn't enough. You win a photo-realistic forum cookie: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v601/mutch/Smilies/cookie_01.jpg Also, here's a cow: http://www.gay.hr/web/smilies/cow.gif Congratulations! |

Note that before you try to use those much. If you look hard enough, you can see a penny below the cardboard for support. Anyway, maybe we could see like a PC styrofoam party; fully equiped with weapons, spells, and the like with cut out bodies and teenie tiny styrofoam heads? :D |

| Stardrake10-26-06, 05:14 PM | Those are some kinda nice! And don't put down your skillz--they look better than the original drawing of a beholder on the cover of the OD&D Supplement 1, GREYHAWK. (Then again, most things look better than OD&D artwork....:D ) |
| Jshock_7510-26-06, 05:22 PM | The large, staring googly eyes make them oddly scary... unnerving, anyway. Wikkid kewl! |
