I was wondering; what is your favourite all time book/tome/manual from any edition of the game.

It can be for any reason - art, crunch, theme, style etc.

I happen to have a nostalgic love for my 1st edition Deities & Demigods (the one with the cthulhu/melnibonean mythos).

It was the first book I really got into (the picture of Elric really hooked me)when I first started playing the game.

When I was a little lad, I would spend hours looking at all the pictures and stats of the various Gods and Heroes.

What about you?

I have to admit that I was enamored with the art in the Monster Manual II (The original one) for a long time. The quality difference between it and the first Monster Manual was amazing.

However, my favorite book of all time still has to be the Monster Manual (3.5) as I'm still pulling interesting encounters together from it after all these years. The possibility of advancing and/or adding class levels for monsters gave me such tremendous flexibility.

Second place goes to the AD&D DMG. It had all kinds of stuff packed in there...including the crunch numbers for most of the monsters...

Other than rules, which I just like reading, it would be Spelljammer Box set. This was the first, and really only, D&D setting that grabbed my imagination and wouldn't let go. I loved the tone, the theme, the possibilities of what you could do. It was everything that a campaign setting should be to me.

Well, I found the 3.5 DMG a huge improvement over the 2nd ed. one. (skipped 3.0)
I also like the Draconomicon a lot.

I don't have much of the older stuff though.

Anyone out there know the price of specific jewels & gems from teeny to large?…Morganite, Chrysoprase, Ruby Spinel, Olivne, Labradorite, Sardonyx, Lapis Lazuli, Tormaline, Jasper, Onyx, Citrine, Peridot, Fire Opal, Ruby, Aquamarine, Bloodstone, Sapphire, Diamond, Emerald, Pearl, Amber, Jade, Amethyst, Moonstone, Turquoise, Red Coral, Amazonite, Agate, Sard, Topaz, Carnelilan, Garnet, Kunzite, Zircon, Alexandrite.

Also do they very by types of cuts…Pear Shape, American Brilliant, Cabochon, Emerald Cut, Baguette, Single Cut.

Please be as specific as possible, I need it for my campaign. One of the PCs asked for specific prices on such things & I haven’t played for very long.

What in the world does this have to do with the topic of the thread?

I still have the fondest memories of getting the red basic set and the blue expert set back in '81. These were my first books, though I had been introduced to the game a few years earlier. I still have them up in my attic.

Sorry I don’t know how to post new threads. I’m just learning how to use the internet & need help with my D&D game.

I don't have just one, but my favorite books by edition:

1e: DMG

2e:
Complete Thief's Handbook: Even without the kits (which were well done for a 2e Complete Book), the rest of the material is superb.

Complete Priest's Handbook : Lots of good stuff on building religions.

PO: Spells and Magic: Alternate spellcasting systems (e.g., channeler, alienist) and plenty of good specialist wizards beyond school specialties (e.g., alchemist, artificer, geomancer, song mage, dimensionalists, elementalists, force mages, shadow mages).

3.x: Unearthed Arcana (Green Ronin), Psychic's Handbook (Green Ronin), Shaman's Handbook (Green Ronin)

1st edition DM book is by far the best, but then again the monster manuel 2 is good!
