So, now that 3.5 is a month away from the gallows, what was your favorite 3.x published adventure? I nominate Red Hand of Doom, with Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil as a runner up. What about you? What's your favorite?

78% of DM's started their first campaign in a tavern. If you're one of the 22% that didn't, copy and paste this into your signatured

Shackled City gets my vote.

Sunless Citadel - but if you want to get technical and say this was 3.0, then I would vote the Savage Tide adventures.

RttToEE is "3.0", not 3.5, but it still stands out as one of the best of 3e regardless. Although more churn than anything else, it showed that 3e can handle huge. Unfortunately, most players couldn't. I suspect far more RttToEE campaigns started than finished. Ours included.

Probably my favorite 3e adventure was Out of Body, Out of Mind by AEG.

We've only played a small handful of adventures from WotC: Elemental Evil, City of the Spider Queen, and Expedition to Ravenloft. I remember having fun with Spider Queen. Glad to know our Elemental Evil campaign wasn't the only to flounder ;). My least favorite of these was Ravenloft (the Delve format sunk it for me as DM).

As far as 3rd party adventures, the Savage Tide from Paizo was awesome all the way (especially the last few games). Never took the time with Shackled City or Age of Worms unfortunately.

As DM, I most often snatch ideas for our games from adventures in Dungeon Magazine. The mag is generally cheaper than published adventures, and I get a decent selection. I very rarely have time to write myself, so Dungeon has been a life-saver in that regard.

I'll just take a moment then and say, "Thanks, Dungeon" (and to everyone who has contributed over the years) ;).

I've run RttToEE before, and like most others the group never finished. My current group is looking to head in, actually.

I was a player in City of the Spider Queen. It was crazy good fun.

I've never played or DMed any of Paizo's adventure paths. I enjoyed reading Age of Worms, though I think the heavy focus on undead is problematic to a lot of groups. And I think the arc had some issues at the end, as well. I didn't enjoy Savage Tide as much; not sure why, though.

My players (the ones who will enter RttToEE soon) are currently running through The Sinister Secret of Whiterock (http://www.goodman-games.com/50515preview.php) from Goodman Games. I've found this one to be fun, as well.

Much like Artifact, I pull a lot of adventures (and pieces of adventures) from Dungeon.

The most entertaining adventures we had were the Eberron ones. The one from the end of the Campaign Setting, and Shadows of the Last War. We managed to beat the Emerald Claw guys at the end of the adventure, without losing a schema. A notable memory was from when the rogue threw a potion of cure moderate wounds at the "vampire" hoping that it would harm him. For two seperate and obvious reasons, it did not.

My group played ToEE for about 10 or so sessions before we got bored. We had done a few side quests, and ended up with a little too much loot and xp, so that battles got too easy.

Its been a few years, so I don't recall the details, but I remember some big door guarded by a chimera or a manticore or something, and I think some gong nearby. Just to get a decently challenging battle, we rang the gong to draw all monsters from the nearby areas. The battle was entertaining, but it only lasted about six rounds.

Still, it was a good time.

We did Shackled City for a few sessions, but we only did one quest, Life's Bazaar, or something, before our DM went emo and stopped playing D&D for about a year. We got bored doing the dungeon crawl in some gnome city, so we just used Scent to figure out the most efficient means to the end of the dungeon; we talked to some Hobgoblins, bought some child slaves before a Beholder showed, and left without a meaningful battle.

Sunless Citadel was tedious, but we got through the whole thing.

Second place: Red Hand of Doom
First Place: "Chimes at Midnight" in Dungeon #133. Great for Eberron, great main villian.

Never played it, but it's one of my favorite adventures I've read in Dungeon.

Have you had a chance to do anything with "Quoth the Raven" from Dungeon 150? It was a sequel to Chimes. Also a very entertaining read.

Sunless Citadel, in my mind. Dark, and brooding. Exemplary.

I was really surprised to see a mod of that quality for 3.X.
