| solem01-16-08, 10:31 AM | hello everybody. there's a bunch of 20 year old phd's who are going to play dungeons and dragons for some reason and they need the best adventure there is. any tips? no grinding, just good story, smart puzzles, good npcs etc. i'm not sure if d&d is the best system at all for more a bit more advanced stuff but perhaps some of you have advice. |
| EaterOfTheDead01-16-08, 11:33 AM | Desert of Desolation was a lot of fun if you don't mind the conversion. The Master of the Desert Nomads modules are a lot of fun and convert easily to 3.5. I really enjoyed Feast of Goblyns back in the day but tried converting it recently and it's kind of a pain. Many people have had a lot of fun with Heart of Nightfang Spire but I found it to be little more than a well designed dungeon and seriously lacking in the story department unless you have played the whole series. |

| CastTiltowait01-16-08, 03:04 PM | If you look at all the threads, obviously, a large number of people think the Red Hand of Doom is a fun, thoughtful module. It doesn't involve a lot of puzzle solving like in games like Myst or the old style dungeon crawls, but there are many tactical situations that have are dealt with best by well thought out plans rather than brute force. If the players don't have a ton of experience w/D&D, I'd advise starting them at 6th level rather than 5th. |

| Gerry01-17-08, 06:35 AM | Yup. RHoD is great! and lots of DM support in various threads! For instance, the link in my sig. But I add puzzle rooms every once in a while to add those kind of things. Gerry |

| Watcher_in_the_mists01-17-08, 01:03 PM | I currently run Feast of goblyns as a DM and it is really nice, though its 2nd edition. But the story is great so if u like it, u can even continue the grand conjunction and move on to ship of horror, and then from the shadows to conclude with roots of evil. I've played through the fist part of tomb of horrors and me and my friends really liked it even though we got pwned by Mistress Feranifer. It definitely is puzzling and story, and really deadly filled with unforeseen traps and dangers. As for RHoD that everyone talks about, idk. Hope it gives u good hint |

Hope it gives u good hint I ran Feast of Goblyns, Ship of Horror and Roots of Evil back in the day and the Old Kartakan Inn was one of my favorite dungeons ever. I had a high level ranger and a high level psion. Both characters had been introduced to renaissance firearms and used them extensively. They kept blasting away at the wolfweres but they were not +1 weapons so they just kept getting back up. It was great. The psion would ego whip them and make them feel bad but the damned things just kept getting back up and coming at them again. They took to throwing characters through walls so there was lots of destruction from the flying bodies and massive gunfire. Very recently, a couple weeks ago, I downloaded the entire Grand Conjunction series of modules, you can get them right here on wizards.com, but they are really hard to convert to 3.5 and I decided were not worth the effort. You also have to rearrange their order or the levels get all screwed up. If you use all of them you can see a party go from 1st to probably 12th or 16th level. Feast of Goblyns was a high point from my last days of 2nd Ed but I don't think I'll be repeating it in 3.5 anytime soon. I have checked out the 3.5 update here on wizards.com for Tomb of Horrors and plan on including it as a side trek for my upcoming Shackled City campaign. However, the module is all dungeon so it might not be what you're looking for, judging by the OP. |
