| Alas04-02-08, 02:49 PM | Dragon #150, the October 1989 issue. Fantastic cover art of a witch standing by a scarecrow, and if I recall, a lengthy article on an illithid-dominated world. The artwork really resonated with me because I was still living in corn country at the time, and the illithid article really freaked me out the first time I read it (at night, by myself, in a dimly-lit room). |
| Zherog04-02-08, 03:13 PM | The best issues of Dragon were the eight issues that printed my thirteen articles. :D |
| GuyrtheadamantineOne04-02-08, 04:15 PM | The best issues of Dragon were the eight issues that printed my thirteen articles. :D Which were? |
| Zherog04-02-08, 05:14 PM | Which were? 330: Sorcerers Are Special...ists Too 332: Where Did You Go To College? 334: Animal Accessories, Back To School, Multiclassed Wizards 335: Favored Enemy Feats 337: Druid Organizations 341: Familiar Flavoring (co-author) 342: Healer's Touch, The Power of Faith, Tribal Halflings 348: Wild Shape Guide 358: Arcane Feats All except Healer's Touch and The Power of Faith are in the "Class Acts" section. Healer's Touch is a Bazaar of the Bizarre article, and The Power of Faith is a feature. |
| RavenGraygem04-02-08, 05:50 PM | Never really read Dragon magazine, so I don't have any favorites there, but I do have a few Dungeon favorites. Dungeon #91 - The first one I ever purchased, and I did so solely on the strength of the cover art, which showed this evil-looking robot on the cover. Inside was a lengthy adventure that introduced the half-machine template (the quality of which persuaded me to shell for a multi-year subscription). That same day, I was cruising the internet for suitable D&D art, and found a picture of a dragon with a ton of hardware wired into it, perfect fodder for the template... Happy memories. Dungeon #92 - Spelljammer. Dungeon #100 - The Githyanki Incursion. Dungeon #105 - Warduke! Dungeon #110 - Dark Sun, and about freakin' time. |
| Lord_of_Rivendell04-03-08, 06:56 PM | I really loved the 1e adventure Temple of Poseidon in Dragon Magazine #46. I have been toying with trying to update it. When I think of more, I'll post them. I used to read the White Dwarf too, there might be some good ones there as well. LoR |
| Flamegrape04-03-08, 08:10 PM | the one with the Tesseract early one cannot find it in the digital archive right now Is that the one about Baba Yaga's Hut? If that's what you mean, I really liked that one, too. |
| RedWizard04-03-08, 10:16 PM | Dragon #76, Ecology of the Mind Flayer (as told by a githyanki knight), the first reference to the Psionicist and the details of playing a Deryni from Katherine Kurtz novels. |
| GuyrtheadamantineOne04-04-08, 12:52 AM | Now, my favorites: Dragon #342, because I started reading it from there (Great articles BTW Zerog! I didn't knew Eberron at the time, and my first thought was: Halfling barbarians? LAME!:D I have been enlightened to Eberron now, so pardon me.) and that the Class Acts: Ninja article featuring ''Narutesque'' ninja feats really made my day. Dragon #327, because of the A Novel's Approach article about Frankenstein and ''costumized'' Flesh Golems. Dragon #344, despite being heavily dragon-themed, catched my eye with an awesome article describing DreadHold, the famous Eberron prison, and, inside its annual Buyer's Guide, was my first sight on the BoNS, which is now my favorite Accessory Book. |
| Zherog04-04-08, 11:03 AM | Now, my favorites: Dragon #342, because I started reading it from there (Great articles BTW Zerog! I didn't knew Eberron at the time, and my first thought was: Halfling barbarians? LAME!:D I have been enlightened to Eberron now, so pardon me.) and that the Class Acts: Ninja article featuring ''Narutesque'' ninja feats really made my day. Thanks for your kind words. Halfling barbarians are most definitely weak, mechanically. Even if you grab all the sub levels I wrote, it's still weak. The idea of that article was to help a little, and to also make the class/race combo a little more flavorful. Hopefully it accomplished that. And as a bonus, maybe a DM or two out there used the sample character as an NPC. :) |
| Deckinhand04-06-08, 08:55 PM | :bump: |
| Bloodofgods04-07-08, 04:40 AM | The books that contained the age of worms campaign.. Using them as a guide, and allowing for the building of guilds and lots of other role playing abilities, this was easily the funnest campaign I have ever DMed... |
| Deckinhand04-11-08, 08:43 AM | I also really liked the Savage Tide Adventure Path in issues 139 through 150 of Dungeon Magazine. It was Dungon's last adventure path and my favorite of the three. |
| Deckinhand06-03-08, 07:41 PM | :bump: |
| ShriekingDrake06-11-08, 04:31 PM | I also thought Dungeon 92 was excellent. |
| Artifact06-11-08, 08:01 PM | I think the issues were all the best ;). Hard to settle on an entire issue but if I had to, I'd say Dragon #340, with its thematically linked articles "The Sun" by Chris Tulach, and "The Moon" by Craig Cambell. Very nicely done, both individually and overall. A few of my favorite articles were: "Mind Lords of Talaron" by Stephen Kenson (#281), "Campaign Components: Knights" by Michael John Tresca (#299), and "Ancient PCs: Playing Elders in D&D" by Hal Maclean (#354). Some of my definite favorite recurring series of articles were: Core Beliefs by Sean K Reynolds, Demonomcion by James Jacobs, and Guild Secrets by Andy Collins. I simply loved Dragon Magazine and could easily go on and on and on. Rather than subject y'all to that however, let me just say that I highly recommend it. Pick up a few issues, I don't think you'll regret it ;). P.S. Zherog's "Sorcerers Are Special...ists Too" (#330) is one of my favorite Class Acts articles. Thought I'd mention that since it's came up here ;). |
