Hello everyone. I was just wondering if anyone would be more then willing to help me out with a little something. in a few weeks or so some people I know are holding a D&D arena duel that is going to be free for all and I have just recently started to play about a month or more ago and was wondering if anyone had any ideas on what a good build would be.
the rules that I have been given that it is 3.5 and we start off with level 7 character wealth (19,000 gp) and we are allowed to use any book's

thank you for your time and ideas :)

Arena, you say... Arena as in 1v1?

Well, some cheap shots for 1v1's are grappling monsters (+20 or so Grapple) that stop their opponent from doing anything while they beat him to death, and the gnome wizard with Phantasmal Killer and his spell save DC's shoved to completely ridiculous levels (25-30 should be enough).
Also self-buffing clerics, that use Divine Power and Bull's Strength and stuff, then heal when they need to.

Just a few vague ideas.

Dwarf Cleric 7, gran a warhammer take the 2nd racial substitution (gives weapon spec with hammers)
Lv1 Feat:Extra Turnning
Lv3:quicken spell
Lv6:Divine metamagic (quicken)

Take the War and Fire Domains (Easy if you look at the dwarven pantheon)
Blow his as away with quickened scorching rays or fireballs (wich will be quickened by spending 4 turning attempts, you'll have at least 10 with a charisma of 14)

Won't stand a chance because even after you've spent your spells you can still bludgeon him to death with hammer specialist and a good strenght score...

A wiz7 can access polymorph. A treant, annis hag or hydra would make for a potent combination. Support with buff spells and the like.

Same goes for a dragonwrought kobold sorc7 with the greater draconic rite of passage ability(the one which gives you +1 sorc spellcasting). Alter self into a dragon for the flight if need be, stay out of everyone's way and snipe away.

A bard could max out his diplomacy ranks and just charm everyone in the battlefield.

When you say free-for-all, do you mean that everyone is in the same arena and fighting to be the last one standing?:) Or 1v1 in a tournament style?

Thank you all for your ideas they have been very helpful.
about that arena thing I am not 100% sure because I was told it was going to be help in some kinid of arena so I assume that it is FFA all at once but I could be wrong and it might be just a 1v1 duel and the winner goes on

A Wizard or Cleric 7 will get 4th level spells which can make or break an encounter.

If you are doing a fighting (non-casting) class I would strongly recommend using some multiclass split. With two classes they should be 3/4 or spread more thinly. I'd really stay away from level 5 if possible because you get almost nothing for it (only full BAB classes get a +1 attack) with many classes. I like the 3/4 because it should maximize you BAB and you'll get save increases every level instead of missing them at 5th and 7th. Just using the PHB base classes there are several I would consider with a 3/4 split.

Barb 3/ Fighter 4 or Rogue 4
Pal 3/Ftr 4
Ranger 3/Rogue 4

Not recommended at level 7, diplomacy takes a -10 penalty if you don't use 10 full round actions.

Are you allowed to use any monsters as races then? If so I'd go with a druid and that cheap bat-thing that gives +6 to Wisdom. Maybe consider VoP..

Kobold Sorcerer 7 that has taken the Greater Draconic Rite of Passage.

Casts spells as an eighth-level Sorcerer, including spells/day, spells known, and caster level.

You can activate any scroll with a caster level of 16 or lower automatically. I recommend the following...

Mislead (1,650 gp)
Circle of Death (2,150 gp)
Horrid Wilting (3,000 gp)

Leaving you with over 10,000 gold pieces to spend on survival gear. I would recommend an item that will make you appear to be a less threatening combatant than a character that is only limited by resources/day in an arena fight scenario.

Start off with a Solid Fog that preferably doesn't encompass you but does block people's view of you. Encompass yourself if necessary. Next, use Mislead to create an image of you that is pulling scrolls out of a pocket and pretending to cast them. Move very far away and do the same thing yourself.

I would honestly be surprised if two scrolls didn't finish everyone off.

A Wizard or Cleric 7 will get 4th level spells which can make or break an encounter.
A Sorcerer will get clean access to eighth-level spells, which are much more likely to make or break an encounter. Clerics can get boosts to their caster level to access high level scrolls easily too, though, but high level divine spells tend to be slightly less effective when it comes to "blast that group of people to pieces".

He should still have a fair chance of success, even with the -10 penalty for speed diplomacy.

I know an average check of 40-50+ shouldn't be impossible by this time...:P

Too bad it takes a 150 to turn them from Hostile to Fanatic, the only attitude that one could consider a win condition.

Ding, ding, ding. The rest was solid though.
