| Vvornth01-12-06, 06:46 AM | Let's hear it folks, Dungeon magazine is without a doubt the most prolific Adventure source for the DnD system, but the quality can at times be somewhat uneven. Hence this thread, which is in your opinion the best Dungeon adventures published? (name/number) Edition doesnt' matter. I have a personal favourite but I'll hold it off for a while in order to see if some people can remember it without having their memory jogged. :) |
| Zherog01-12-06, 10:24 AM | My favorite adventure so far in Dungeon (I've subscribed since August '04) is "The Styes" by Richard Pett, in the April 2005 issue. I'm actually running it now with my group; we play on-line, and even in that medium the "creep out" factor of the setting comes through. Some others I like: "The Whispering Cairn" by Erik Mona (part 1 of the Age of Worms Adventure Path, July 2005 issue) "Murder in Oakbridge" by Uri Kurlianchik (December 2005 issue) "Throne of Iuz" by John Simcoe (January 2005 issue) There's plenty of others that are quite good - but in my opinion, those four really stand out. So much so, in fact, that I knew names and authors (though I had to look up the spelling of Uri's name, and had to also look up when they were printed ;) ). |

| Grand Theft Otto01-12-06, 11:20 AM | Any challenge of champions. A great way to spend an evening; I even had puzzles the players had solved earlier in the campaign crop up again to their amusement. Libris Mortis (issue 29). Really cool library. One of my player's is running a priest of oghma, and I cant wait to run this for him. Jacob's Well (issue 43). Good tribute (or rip off if you are cynical) to "Alien". I kicked off a campaign with this once, and everyone loved it. Drenla Erla managed to live through the adventure and joined the party... my throat still aches from doing his voice. Old Man Katan and the Incredible (edible) Mushroom Band (issue 41). Yeah, its silly. Sue me, I loved playing it. Lady of the Mists (issue ?) Interesting murder mystery, good story with a semi epic feel. I stopped buying Dungeon for a long time, but recently started again. I really liked the Styes.. good oppressive feel to that adventure. |
| Roxlimn01-12-06, 11:46 AM | "Doors from Everywhere." Lost the mag while using it. :( "Tears for Twilight Hollow" Massive 3e mid-level adventure from issue 90, March/April 2002. "Goblin Fever" A low level city/plague adventure using AD&D, issue 46, March/April 1994 "Castle of the Blind Sun" high level epic AD&D adventure about a legendary blind bard, betrayal, music, and a castle that only appears during a solar eclipse. issue 49 Sept/Oct 1994 "The Oracle at Sumbar" mid level AD&D adventure on the Sea of Fallen Stars. Pirates and treasure hunting! issue 48 July/August 1994 "The Raiders of Galath's Roost" excellent 1st level 3e adventure issue 87 July/August 2001 "Maure Castle" high level 3e adventure issue issue 112, July 2004 Technically unfair, since it's only an update of an established classic "Test of the Smoking Eye" mid level 3e adventure, part of the Shackled City Adventure Path. IMO, the best of an excellent series of adventures. Great locale, great quests, interesting encounters and personalities. issue 107, February 2004 |
| Tolby01-12-06, 01:22 PM | Don't remember the name but it is often seen. It involved the deck of many things as keys to doors. Very cool adventure. The issue had a minor death coming out of a card on the cover. "the whispering Cairn" is another good adventure. |

The issue had a minor death coming out of a card on the cover. You're talking about "House of Cards", issue #19 (which had an amazing cover btw) Personally, my favorite are: - Vesicant (#16) for the really smart dragon - Thiondar's Legacy (#30), an epic adventure before that word was invented - Ghost of Mistmoor (#35) for the splendid plot within a plot - Horror's Harvest (#38), 'cause it doesn't get worse than that - Fiends of Tethyr (#54) because every time I ran it, my players fell for it |
| Vvornth01-12-06, 01:53 PM | "Goblin Fever", there it is. I made the entire plague part very... hmmm.. phobic for the PCs when I ran it, in the end they were so paranoid that they were willing to throw all LG ethics out the window for the sake of distancing themselves to the accidently afflicted. And this is an experienced, true roleplaying group. |

And this is an experienced, true roleplaying group. Goblin Fever is going to make it into my current campaign, since the party is in control of a small township. The part where the crazy naked guy is running with the hounds, and the bandits stop fighting to cheer him on is great. Even chaotic evil murderers need a mascot. |
| Mulan Rogue01-13-06, 05:11 AM | Dungeon 114. "Mad God's Key". Dungeon 121 "The Styes". Dungeon 105 "The Stink". And many more. :) |
| gbinpa01-13-06, 08:43 AM | Where can you get the magazine? Does it come in a subscription? Or is it one magazine at a time from a D&D store? Help me out here. Grace |

| Caemin Pah01-13-06, 09:27 AM | THE best adventure for background and storyline was Forgotten Man. Dont remember what issue it was from, but villagers found a guy with amnesia, the PCs could make friends with him, then the guy turns out to be a long-forgotten (3e rules) blackguard and champion of an extremely evil god. Awesome adventure, ran through twice with two different groups and guys from both groups still refer to that adventure from time to time. |

I liked the defending sword that added magic resistance based on how much +'s you put in defense. Vesicant that was the Green Dragon that had a entire Pirate city worshipping it. She breathed gas on the ships and then the pirates looted the now "ghost" ships. |
