| Enox Sarinox01-24-06, 07:44 AM | Hello, I want to make a fighter that uses two weapons, off course you take ambidexterity - two weapon fighting - improved two weapon fighting. But what else can you take to improve your two weapons. What I want is to use two greataxes? any idea's? greets Luc |
| Kresalak01-24-06, 08:03 AM | A greataxe is a two handed weapon. I don't remember if there is any way to wield a two handed weapon one handed. The optimal build is Fighter 2/Swashbuckler 3/Dervish 10/Tempest 5, but that forces you to use a scimitar. Oversized Two-Weapon Fighting will allow you to treat one handed weapons as light weapons for two-weapon fighting. The Greater Two-Weapon Fighting feat nets you another attack, and the Two-Weapon Defense, Imp. TWD, and Greater TWD give you a total of a +3 shield bonus to AC. Tempest is a useful class for TWF. |
| Noria Merfolk Mage01-24-06, 08:22 AM | Um, Ambidexterity doesn't exist anymore, Two-weapon Fighting does both things now. Just pointing this out. |
| babysamurai01-24-06, 08:23 AM | Dual Stike and Double Hit are two wonderful feats for a TWFer to take. Never, ever, ever take The Two-Weapon Defence feats...they suck donkey schlong! |
| Kresalak01-24-06, 12:20 PM | Dual strike, frankly, sucks. No matter what you take a -4 penalty to hit, you get the worse of the two attack bonuses, and precision damage or critical hits only apply once. You'll have better luck being a Dervish and getting full movement and full attack, or a Tempest with Two-Weapon Spring Attack. I don't remember where Double Hit is. What feats would you say are better to take the TWD, and why do you think they are so horrible? |

I would need charts and diagrams to explain why TWD is so crappy. Improved Buckler Defence is another great feat for a TWFer to take. |
| Bruunwald01-24-06, 12:26 PM | There's a more basic way to begin the build. Begin as ranger, maxing Dexterity first, Strength next. Human is best, since you get the extra feat, but elf will make sure you get the Dex bonus. Take Weapon Focus for the weapon in your dominant hand, and Weapon Finesse for the weapon in your off-hand. Continue up the two-weapon fighting tree. It's not as damage-dealing an alternative, but it does make for more successful hits per round. |

Improved Buckler Defence is another great feat for a TWFer to take. Improved Buckler Defense is good unless you're a Dervish, in which case it's useless. So in other words, you can't explain why the feats are crappy. |
| 9JACK901-24-06, 01:56 PM | Wow... you want to be able to swing two d12 greataxes? Like, one in each hand? Uh, you can't, unless you're large size. Even the feat "Monkey Grip" won't let you do that... Tell you what, do this: 1) Make a dwarven fighter. Max (or near max) your Strength. 2) "Two-weapon Fighting" feat. 3) If you're using 3.0, you're gonna have to take "Ambidexterity", and that sucks. 4) "Oversized Two-Weapon Fighting" feat. (Complete Adventurer) 5) Buy two Dwarven Waraxes. 6) "Weapon Focus: Dwarven Waraxe" feat. By third level: Attack: +7 to hit with TWO Waraxes a round. (Or +6, depending on Str) Damage: 1d10+4 (or +3, depending on Str) In my opinion? Forget about "Improved Two-Weapon Fighting". You need to be 6th level anyway, and if you're a fighter, having a 17 dex should be the last thing on your mind, unless you're an Elf who likes to prance around a battlefield, doing 1d6-1 with a tiny *** little rapier... *looks up at above posts* Look, if you started this tread asking how to swing two greataxes, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that you're not looking to play an elf. Greataxes might be out, but I'd say that this is almost the next best thing. |

A TWF needs all three of the TWF feats to be useful. If you want to play a high Str fighter, you use a two handed weapon. TWF is for people with high Dexterity, since you need AT LEAST 15 to get regular TWF. Since the best TWFs cannot wear armor and get their abilities, you maximize dexterity and use Weapon Finesse. And don't forget about ITWF, or you wasted a feat on TWF and you're wasting the ability to kill things with a two handed weapon. |
| Ignatius Metamorphic01-24-06, 04:12 PM | You probably want to check out the character optimization boards. Here are my comments: Use the same weapon in each hand to maximize the bonuses from your feats. For example, here is a human fighter (Dex 17) who uses a pair of shortswords. F1: Two weapon Fighting, Weapon Finesse, Weapon Focus (Shortsword) F2: Two Weapon Defence F3: Feat F4: Weapon Specialization (Shortsword) [+1 Dex] F5: F6: Feat, Improved Two Weapon Fighting F7: F8: Greater Weapon Focus [+1 Dex] F9: Feat F10: Feat F11: Greater Two Weapon Fighting F12: Feat, Greater Weapon Specialization At 12th Level you'll have six attacks (+16/+16/+13/+13/+8/+8) and 1D6+4 damage. Of course, in addition to Dex, you want a decent strength to get another damage bonus. Also, you should try to have the best pair of shortswords possible (Good enchantment bonus and good special abilities (Flaming, etc.)) Be prepared to roll a lot of dice. |
| Kresalak01-24-06, 04:20 PM | You probably want to check out the character optimization boards. Here's a firendly tip from them: the Fighter class ends at level 4. Swashbuckler gives you Int to damage, Dervish gives you dancing, which at the end nets +5 to attack and damage and full movement and full attack in the same round in a dance, as well as a few other abilities including +3 AC, and the ever important A Thousand Cuts, while Tempest nets you +3 AC, reduced penalties for TWF, the ability to apply the weapon focus chain to both weapons you wield even if they're not the same kind, and Two-Weapon Spring Attack. |
| babysamurai01-25-06, 11:30 AM | So in other words, you can't explain why the feats are crappy. I could easily explain, but since you're being so passive-aggressive I won't bother. And judging by your lack of a good grasp on TWF builds, you probably wouldn't understand anyway. ...best of luck... |
