Best way to organize your game table [Archive] - Wizards Community

07-18-06, 03:12 PM I was wondering, how do you guys organize your game table?

I have a table, I sit at the head, with my bookshelf to my left, a small table with the books I'll be using closer on my left, my players arrayed across the table. I put a large 1" grid paper map up on the wall with tape, with multiple maps taped up on the wall behind it, so I take down the first map when we're done with it. I have a calculator for math, and don't fiddle with music anymore; too much work.

Any suggestions, things you've found useful?

- SRD
- a dice program
- monster stats
- maybe some pdf's with info.

next to the laptop i've got:
- three core books
- paper
- other books.

in front of me are the players with Character sheets. and in the middle of the table we have dice.

07-18-06, 04:18 PM I sit at the head of the table with my laptop. My dice program keeps my players from even knowing when I am rolling their spot and listen checks. I also have the SRD open. Also on the table is are the core rulebooks, grid, dice, character sheets and all of my scrap paper with my homebrew campaign setting data on them. Next to the table is my supplement stack. They can't be kept on the table because that's how I broke my old table. I have my minis between the grid and the laptop.

The laptop is the key to success

07-18-06, 04:36 PM I have a friend who brings a laptop to play. I useually DM and oh how I wish I had one, it would make my life so much easier.

07-18-06, 04:45 PM We run a large L shaped table. DM on the inside. Map spread out. Around DM Laptop w/ E-Tools with PC info (mod heavy w/ help files), DM Screens, all books on shelves behind DM (okay all but BoED, but also don't have that mod for Etools)

Players have their space onthe table for rolling dice (usually in a containment box of some sort (felt lined hand made boxes)) but keep character sheets next to them on little "TV Tray Tables". that way the table stays clear of papers and we can concentrate on the map when needed.

07-18-06, 07:43 PM Our game table isn't organized at all.

Six players sit at a normal-size dining table, one player on each end and two on each side. The DM sits on a tall bar stool (so he can observe from a higher elevation) and sits at a high countertop separating the dining room from the kitchen. His dice and books are on that countertop.

The best I've seen is a basement setup with a projector mounted on the ceiling, projecting the game map down onto the table below. The DM controls it with a laptop, unmasking parts of the map as needed.
