For stories of really good luck...

My lvl 8 Clerics AC is extremely sad at a mere 16, he’s not a melee type so it worked out ok so far but one day…
Our trapfinder had recently been killed by the master if the rogues guild whose cavern complex we were invading. Later, while most of the party stayed in a central hub area, I checked out numerous doors using a Find Traps spell, with one invisible party member guarding me. Unfortunately as my guard scouted ahead, the GuildMaster attacked me after I checked the door he/they waited behind.

I was surprised, and things looked bleak as he criticalled on the sneak attack...but wait, I may have a bad AC but it’s AC with Light Fortification. Making the check, the sneak attack was negated…dm had me roll separately for crit against the fortification which failed. ( don’t know if that’s right to check them separately, but that’s what he ruled, which was ok with me ) Then to make matters worse another rogue flanked me and attacked…not so fast with the sneak dice says my light fortification roll again.

I yelled for help, hey it’s a free world, I mean action. But most of the party was a couple rounds away, so my buddy was going to use his range attacks. Well I lost initiative…Light Fort once again spared me against the Guildmasters and flanker's sneak damage. On my turn I activated the Mithralmist Armor effect and now had Concealment, a 20% miss chance for them.

So I survived the fight.
The Guildmaster only got through the conceal/lt fort once despite focusing solely on my cleric and getting 2 attacks a round, and the other rogue never got through both defenses during the 6 rounds of combat that followed the surprise attack. The rest of the party got slowed by the 5 other guild rogues that came out, but they got there during round 4 and saved my bacon. The Guildmaster got away, thanks to a spell, but that’s a small price to pay to have taken out 6 fairly high level lieutenants of the guild, and living to tell about it.
