Better Mainpage Articles? [Gripe] [Archive] - Wizards Community

Is it just me?

The articles on the mainpage have of late taken on a very determined theme: That we should all buy miniatures and Eberron. It tells me that every day, over and over. Article after article after article that leave a lot of us out. If the general product previews were as lengthy, detailed, and elaborate as the latest Miniatures preview (colossal paragraphs and color pics for each and every mini - and hardly a paragraph for Complete Adventurer), I'd be a happy man. If the mainpage devoted as much time on D&D in general as it has lately on pushing its latest new products, I'd be even happier. If I didn't have to buy supplements largely filled with reprints and 3.5 updates of material I already own - the type of update information that used to be posted on the mainpage for free - I'd be happier still.

Yes, I know it's all about money. I know the mainpage content's free and I therefore shouldn't complain, but I am. I used to look forward to the mainpage articles - now I mostly grimace after a quick glance. It's become largely one-note. I'd like more diversity in the articles. Less warbands. Less "What color is the sky in Eberron" articles. More crunch. More fluff. More for the rest of us.

From the miniature enthusiast's point of view, there actually isn't that much DDM stuff posted on the main page. One article a week, normally. Miniatures are easy to preview.

It is worth remembering how few D&D designers there are - so web articles aren't of the highest priority. (Magic has 2 new articles/day).

11-23-04, 08:01 PM I haven't found the main page articles to be a problem, even though I play neither miniatures nor Eberron. I still get my Rules of the Game, Far Corners, Random Encounters, Vicious Venues and Free Online Adventures. They come out like clockwork. And the fluff that hits the site gives me ideas for my own campaign.

11-24-04, 04:55 PM Guess the minis designers and the Eberron folks are just more dedicated to pumping out web articles - given the current relative rarity of products from those lines, that makes some sense.

Of course, being both an Eberron fan and a minis player, I have no objections if this keeps up indefinitely. :D

11-24-04, 05:00 PM Well, personally I am a Forgotten Realms player and I miss the old look of the FR main page..that showed what day it was, and what the weather was like currently in Waterdeep..now it more about BUY THIS NEW BOOK! BUY IT! DONT WORRY ABOUT CONTENT, JUST BUY NEW BOOK! QUICK! IT'S NEVER GONNA BE GONE, BUT YOU NEED IT NOW!. I used to love the simpler times.
